I hadn't seen The Musical Box for many years (partly due to ridiculous ticket pricing for a tribute band) but last night's show at Leamington Assembly Rooms was absolutely stunning! Managed to get a cheaper than previously advertised ticket and wow, was I glad I went! It always helps if it's a standing gig for me and this one proved it. Great crowd, great atmosphere and note-perfect musicianship. Incredibly powerful and passionate. If anyone gets the chance to go, go! You won't be disappointed!

I've seen them a few times - a Selling England and a Lamb show, but I not this time due to the price of the tickets... shocked

They're very good at recreating the show(s) but I see it more as 'musical theatre' rather than a gig, if you see what I mean. Still very enjoyable, of course and the songs and musicianship are excellent, but it lacks that certain 'something' for me.

I know exactly what you mean there as I've felt that in the past. I think what made the difference at Leamington was the fact that it was standing and felt more like a proper rock gig rather than theatre. People are too stiff when they're sitting down - I hate that!

I got my ticket for 20+ fees, which is better than the 36 they were originally asking!

You hit the nail right on the head, the 'sitting respectfully' aspect makes it less gig-like. Glad to see you got a good deal on the ticket, I wonder how many they sold for Newcastle at 'Face Value' undecided

I can't "sit respectfully"! grin I even tap to music I don't particularly like! At the G2 gig at Sevenoaks theatre last Saturday, we got told off for putting our arms in the air by people sitting behind us. Bloody stiffs!! We ended up moving to the back so as not to annoy anyone. They all sat there motionless! I mean, how do you sit motionless to Cinema Show? It's beyond me!!

Another great performance by The Musical Box again last night in Manchester. Not quite as good as Leamington but very close! smiley

I don't know where you went for gigs but my local venue was Newcastle City Hall and it was all sitting.
Maybe you're confusing it with festivals.
Personally I dislike playing standing gigs because often the people in the audience are more interested in talking to each other and ordering beer than listening - you can often here the chatter over the quiet tracks like Entangled, whereas in a theatre the audience is listening intently.
Just IMHO

At least you moved!
If you are at a sitting gig then you should give people behind you some respect - nothing worse for me than having to stand at a gig because some numpty in front wants to waggle around in a trance like state in 9/8!!
I went to a Gabriel gig at the O2 and someone in front almost got shoved off the balcony (by me) when trying to dance to Mercy Street!
I didn't pay 60 for a seat to stand up - AAARRGGHH!

All we did was raise our hands to "Jerusaleeeeeeeeem" for a few seconds! Hardly being disrespectful! Where's people's passion for the music?!

I started to write a reply to this, then discarded it as I couldn't get past the patronisation in the 'Maybe you're confusing it with festivals.' line without biting.
