Can you believe Wembley 87 was 30 years ago today, that surely rank amongst the best gigs they ever played. I remember recording it from Radio 1 In Concert on the night, and it was a major factor in my becoming a Genesis fan.

Anyone know why they haven't released it as a Live album yet? I know it was probably too soon after 3SL at the time, but it seems a missed opportunity to me to have a cleaned up/remastered version of it on CD.

Bye bye for now!

Just listening to it now... reliving the old days! thanks for reminding.

I was there, a 20-year-old Genesis fan. It's still the best Saturday night of my life. I know a lot of fans didn't like Phil mugging it up during Turn It On Again, but I thought it just made him the absolute, total entertainer, and by extension made Genesis the absolute best band in the world: the best music, the best performers, the whole damn package. I swear Phil was at his absolute peak on that tour.

The show (or rather a combination of cuts from the 4 nights) was released on video cassette (still got mine) then on DVD, so I think they thought they didn't need to release an actual album.

One other thing: when I watch that show yet again, it really does feel like it was just a few years ago. I wish Phil could still perform like that. Damn.

Yes - I didn't see them at Wembley - but saw them at Roundhay Park a few days earlier in 1987. I remember thinking at the time I wish I'd seen them in the 70s, but looking back now - they were still at their peak in the 80s too! So I'm thankful I went!

There are some really good recordings of this show circulating at the Genesis Movement Torrent Site! I highly recommend getting it!

Yes though of course famously they said they didn't have enough high-definition tape for the whole gig (reallyhuh) so had to leave a track off, and boy was I pissed off that they chose to ditch the Cage/Quiet Earth medley. Their explanation was that it had already been on a live video before so was the most obvious one to lose. But what a shame, it was so good.

I was at one of those Wembley gigs, I think the Friday one. I enjoyed it, but found it a bit weird seeing them in such an enormous venue, having previously seen them in theatres and a concrete agricultural shed in a field. Plus, when they came on stage and it was still bright sunny daylight, it felt all wrong.

On a tangent, I've never been able to track down a professional video of the Cage/Quiet Earth/Suppers Ready medley from the US leg of the IT tour. Does anyone know if there is one?
