Tony Banks and The Terminator

Is it true or an urban legend that Tony Banks was originally wanted to score the soundtrack to 'The Terminator' but could not because he was doing something else?
I still wonder how Terminator would have sounded if Tony Banks had scored it

According to an interview from 1986, Tony Banks stated that he had received the script for The Terminator, but because he was working on other soundtrack work, he couldn't compose the soundtrack for The Terminator. So yes, this isn't an urban myth. But I think that the soundtrack would have had a lot of use of the Emulator II, much like the work he did for Lorca and the Outlaws, as well as Quicksilver. Probably ominous string synths in the mix too.

Thanks for the answer. I wonder if he regrets not being able to do it? It would have been superb for his solo career in any case

If he did do the soundtrack for the Terminator, it would have been an excellent launching pad for more film score work.

Around the time the film came out, Steve Wright's Radio 1 show broadcast a lot of sketches about the character. One that stuck in my mind was 'The Arnold Schwarzenegger Twins', singing to the tune of 'We Love You Beatles':
'We love you Uzi, oh yes we do...'
and then: 'And if you're lying, we'll be back...'
Wright and crew did do a cash-in song called 'I'll Be Back' - not a Beatles cover!
