« Thread started on: May 20th, 2014, 2:02pm »

A lot of forumites seem to frown upon Daryl's FOF solo (and I do too). So let's focus on the positive: what were Daryl's best moments with Genesis?

I'll vote for his playing in Carpet Crawlers and Ripples (someone mentioned that in another thread) and of course: In The Cage. Nothing beats that guitar solo. cool

I think that the 1978 version of The Fountain Of Salmacis featured on Three Sides Live is one of Daryl's finest moments.

Daryl's guitar solo at the end of "Jesus he knows me" is a great addition to that song!

The Knebworth 78 version is better wink

Mine?

Firth Of Fifth...Ok at the risk of falling foul of the purists I love Daryl's take on the solo.
Behind The Lines/Duchess... Makes the song in both cases
I Know What I Like at Knebworth 78
Los Endos...Amazing solo at the end
It's Gonna Get Better... His most "Hackettish" solo in my opinion
In The Bloody Cage. cool
Misunderstanding: His little runs elevate the song in my opinion

There are more so will come back with them when my brain starts working after coffee
.... rolleyes

Best wishes

No one has mentioned the ending of The Lady Lies, which is so much better than the studio fade out.

The fountain at Knebworth. '78.

It was the very first time i heard the fountain that day and it opened so many new doors for me.
Don't need the bootleg as i can still hear it now (though i could do with a copy to remember the whole show)
Though i still adore Steve playing it live.

(will do the Paris photos today JW).

This is what I immediately thought of. Shame that Phil talked over some of it! laugh

Sorry mate but yes,
My dad wouldn't let me go on my motorbike so he drove me down and sat in the car all day.
My cousin who was in the forces at the time based in Germany also took me to see them at the Summertime open air Festival in Ulm Germany that same summer so actually saw it twice.

I have been very very lucky over the years and have managed to see just about every major tour/festival/gig in the Uk and Europe since 1977. (may have something to do with not settling down or finding (never actually went looking) a partner till i was 43.)

Still got nearly all my tickets and programmes(inc very water damaged six of the best).
