I won't post the list in case people want to be unspoiled. Lol

Just came from there. He sat all show, didn't play drums sadly but nailed everything. Superb show. Absolutely loved it.

All of the above smiley

As spoiler free as I can manage.. skip if you wanna be totally surprised but I won't name any songs.

The seven songs I predicted as absolute definites were all played.

There's (at least) one real nice genuine surprise.

The gig - Terrific. Phil explains why he has to sit, and does so throughout, though he perches elsewhere for a song or two.

At first I thought it was consequently gonna be ballad heavy but there's actually a lovely shape to the set - very well put together indeed and develops beautifully.

Phil's in good voice, and despite being seated knocks out the upbeat stuff with aplomb.

Band are super tight as expected, but not too stiff for larking about. Nick nails it (in more ways than one).

Quite an emotional gig in places. The audience clearly want him to know how him and his music are loved. Phil tells us he appreciates the support.

Presentation excellent, as you'd hope/expect - graphics, lights and so on effective but not overdone. Sound was mostly excellent. Actual stage set up refreshingly simple.

Audience dug it all. Nowhere near as much mid show lager drinking as I'd feared - only had to let one person past me!

What a treat to have the 1st show in Liverpool. Very glad I threw caution to the wind and forked out.

Have to disagree regarding the sound. We were sat just to the right of the sound desk and volume was really low, to the point were you could have a conversation without having to raise your voice. This may be own to the venue though. As everyone has said band was superb and Phil's voice was in good shape, I was expecting a lot of key changes but that was not the case. Bit emotional watching Phil hobble on and off stage.

I also saw Phil at the Liverpool Echo Arena last night. To be honest I had half expected a late cancellation with talk of ill health and little info on the forthcoming concerts. Indeed when we arrived in Liverpool on the Wednesday there was a complete lack of pre-show publicity.

So on the Friday it was good to see a huge crowd turn up and a nice pre-show feeling around the venue in the Albert Dock. Our seats were half way back in the stalls right by the mixing desk where to our amazement Peter Kaye the comedian was sitting with Tony Smith Phil's manager! When Phil emerged it was hard not to feel rather sad and a bit worried about how he could possibly manage a 2 hour plus show from a seated position. In reality his performance was quite fantastic and the show was a delight from start to finnish. The setlist was a constant surprise as Phil's choices showed real courage and a willingness to drop lots of big hits. Somehow from a seated position he managed to inject real energy into the uptempo songs.

The production was magnificent but never allowed to dominate the music. As ever the band was just superb. Top quality playing throughout. I have to pick out Phil's son (Nick) who was just astounding. It was like watching a young Phil and their playing of one very old song with Nick on Piano was a very emotional moment. I am even in tears now as I recall this magical three minutes.

So in summary I am very pleased I went to Liverpool to see Phil. Yes I felt sad at times watching old pictures of Phil and Genesis in their prime. I am lucky enough to have seen them several times when they were young men. Like us all in the end we must all grow old as someone once wrote:

"The face in the water looks up,
And she shakes her head as if to say
That it's the last time you'll look like today"

So Phil thanks for an amazing night and if that is the last time I see you in concert thanks for being such a huge part of my musical life.... You will always be a star to me!

That's interesting, I was at the back of the lower tier also near the sound desk and the sound was decent, though I did notice the 'flown' speakers above were pointed right at us. Possibly one of the quieter gigs I've seen there however, I was expecting the ITAT drums to explode and they really didn't.

It was absolutely fantastic. I've been a huge fan of Genesis and Phil for 37 years (heard Turn It On Again on the radio some time in 1980, and that was it). First saw Genesis in 1981 in Birmingham on the Abacab tour. Have seen both the band, and Phil solo, many times since. This was one of the very best gigs I've been to, Genesis/related or otherwise. I took my two boys, who are 15 and 17 and both fine musicians (piano/guitar, piano/trumpet). They were both awestruck. The setlist was amazing, the musicianship was wondrous, and the crowd was superb. You Know What I Mean, with Phil singing and his boy on piano, was just beautiful.

This will stay with me for a long time...

Great to see Phil back on the road again after the rough time he's had over the past ten years.
