End credits say "Surround sound re-recorded at Buena Vista Studios". Was the sound really re-recorded after the concert, or does it mean "remixed" and if so was it originally a multi-track recording or is the surround soundtrack an upmix from stereo? Or perhaps some effects were added in post production?

Hi AC: Sorry for the delay in answering, very busy here with new projects
The original Coming of Age release was in 1998 which pre-dates 5.1 surround. So the surround we used (which was new at the time) was an earlier version. I knew a guy who worked at Disney (Buena Vista studios in Burbank) so we were able to get in there to remix the audio. Andy was thrilled to be at the Disney studios.
Andy and Colin had already mixed the audio at Andy's studio but we were able to to send the crowd applause and one instrument (usually a keyboard but sometimes a guitar) to the rear speakers. This was less than ideal but better than nothing. However, if you play the VHS or DVD in mono, you'll loose that rear instrument altogether which is why when some of the clips from COA originally began showing up on YouTube (before YouTube converted to stereo), they sounded terrible.
So the audio was only slightly remixed from Andy's original mix and the only thing added at Disney was the sound of the comet flying by during the intro (plus the splitting of the crowd and the one instrument).
Everything changed so rapidly at that point in time - what was cutting edge in 1998 was already outdated within a year.

He walked into a valley, all alone. There he talked with water, and then with his no son, his no son of vine!

Heard Rajaz for the first time earlier today. Dragged a bit in the middle, but a very good album overall.

Oh yea beautiful album. It's music that transports you to place your images.
I think the music was better before, do not know why but I think in 20 years nobody would listen to Britny Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony etc..

Thanks very much Dave for taking the time to reply with your customary admirable memory and attention to detail.
I remember how limited surround sound was in the late 1990s, Dolby Pro Logic worked OK for films but needed work before it was to be deemed suitable for music. (Yes made a surround sound live broadcast in late 1997 using some technology from Seattle Audio Imaging Labs which used a work-around the ProLogic problems.)
Must have been fun mixing at Disney, would love to have been a fly on the wall for that one.
By the way, I really like your commet swoosh! Thanks for the info AC

David Paton has done a long radio interview a couple of days ago, and his time with Camel was shortly mentioned, plus a song he was involved in was included. Have a listen here (Camel is mentioned around 2:12:00):

Interesting, it seems David was already meant to be used on Nude.
