« Thread started on: Oct 13th, 2017, 07:18am »

Perhaps justice is about to happen! The Moodies are in the running for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, (in second place in the fans vote as I write. Feel free to vote along with me at https://www.rockhall.com/fan-vote/2018-fan-vote

You can vote for up to 5 nominees, and the other obvious one, for me, is Kate Bush.

Yes, plus the Cars & Depeche Mode.

This year's nominees seem to include fewer than usual bands that no one outside North America has ever heard of! grin

Can I just add, plus Dire Straits. I also wanted Kate Bush to get there but she's not polling very well.

And as the voting ends, they finish second by a huge margin, beaten only, and inexplicably (it must be a US thing, I've never seen the appeal) by Bon Jovi.

Surely 2nd out of the top 5 public supported acts must clinch it? We find out tomorrow, I believe.

Crossing my fingers for The Moody Blues to get in.

Regarding Bon Jovi, my wife and I went to one of their gigs about 10 years ago and I've got to say, it was a very enjoyable concert. Their musicianship is top notch. Mind you, Richie Sambora is no longer in the band, but he was there when we saw them, and he was fabulous. Once was enough though. I wouldn't go to another one of their shows.

I think it's announced on December 13. Go Moody Blues & Dire Straits (who finished 3rd).

Well done to the Moody Blues, the Cars, Dire Straits & Bon Jovi for getting in:

Looking forward to the traditional jam at the end at the end of the ceremony when all living members of those bands are forced to perform Livin’ on a Prayer together laugh

YeeeeeHaaaar! grin

Now it's just a "Question" of who will turn up. Hopefully, all five. It could be like a "sum of the parts" moment without the bloodshed!

No doubt the 3 remaining members will attend, but Ray? I'd guess he'd like to, but is his health up to the trip? Mike? no health issues AND he lives in the US anyway, BUT after 39 years, will he be interested enough to attend? I really hope so.

To partly answer myself, Mike did say about 10 years ago that he never attends Moodies gigs. Felt it was a bit like watching your ex with her new boyfriend! However, recently, (prob 2015) he attended a gig at Santa Rosa, CA, where John Lodge announced him as "king of the Mellotron"

I'd say that there is a solid group of inductees this year.

The Moody Blues are certainly overdue with their recognition. As pioneers of a music genre, one would arguably conclude their exclusion for so many years seemed odd.

(The buzz is that RS publisher Jann Wenner isn't/wasn't particularly impressed by the band, to put it mildly, and quite deliberately has prevented them from being in contention for many years.)

Good to see Dire Straits get the nod as well.

Disclaimer: Under no circumstances do my words above negate my overall indifference to the R&RHOF. A hundred years from now this whole organization will be either generally neglected or forgotten as Beyoncé's great-grandchildren rule the music world.

Well, at least we strongly agree here. Also glad to see the Cars get in, sadly without the guy who sang on "Drive" being here to see it.

Dystopian future prediction there, Henry! sad
