« Thread started on: Oct 9th, 2015, 05:31am »

Hell, it seems this group have overlooked the latest news...

https://rockhall.com/inductees/

For my money, the handful of artists that deserve the recognition are...

Deep Purple
Yes
Chicago
The Cars
Los Lobos
The Smiths

Have at it...

Frankly, I think that's irrelevant.

I can't believe Deep Purple haven't been inducted (induced?) long before. Or actually I can believe it, it's the R'n'R Hall of Fame after all, what else should we expect. grin

Chicago, Chaka Khan and Steve Miller would be my other favourites. Even if they would rather qualify for the pop, funk and blues halls of fame wink

Just a bit of fun matey

On some of the Deep Purple boards there is utter contempt for this award. Also they have said that Blackmore will not accept it which is why I made the point....

Yes....I guess the currently line up would come forward but that would be a massive disservice to one Jon Anderson....

Ideally they would find room for Jon if they are inducted

Best wishes

We should expect musicians who arenít from the US to be severely under-represented, & year after year our expectations are fulfilled rolleyes

How many times have Chic been nominated now? Presumably itís an attempt to wear the electors down until they surrender & induct them just to get some peace tongue

Voted for the Cars & the Smiths. At least the Cars might get in, given their nationality.

Understood.
But I find that perceptions of who should be present to accept the HoF recognition tend to easily ignore various past or present issues that define a band's history or fail to recognize present day considerations.

Sometimes it's nothing more than an issue of practicality, as opposed to fodder for the tabloids.

The five bands/artists that I prefer from this bunch are actually all in the lead as of this morning.

Yes
Deep Purple
Chicago
Steve Miller
The Cars

From what I read about the induction process, there is a voting body of more than 600 people who choose the final inductees.
The top five in this fan poll will receive a single vote each.
So it's one vote out of 600.

No reason why they won't, I'd have thought. It's a health issue, not acrimony, that keeps him out, surely.

I think most of the nominees should get in at some point. A few of them seem a bit slight to me, having some good singles, but no real lasting impact/influence (e.g., Chaka Khan).

+1
Deep Purple, Yes & the Smiths, whether you like them or not, are all major influential bands who should be in there already.

As for Chic, why not stop the pointless annual nomination charade & give Nile Rodgers a RRHoF individual producer's gong instead? Itís not Chic whoíve been influential, itís him, although not in a good way for some artists wink

Yes have influenced prog rock, I'm not sure they've particularly influenced anything else (indeed they are often cited as one of the chief reasons punk happened), and, as we know, prog ain't too popular with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
