xx Double Studio Albums on 1 CD?
« Thread started on: Dec 16th, 2013, 11:59pm »

Hey all!
A really random and arbitrary question, but I was wondering what double studio albums people own that now fit on 1 CD? (No later than ~1986, as CD-era albums like We Can't Dance are really not doubles.)
Here's my collection. I'll update it if it turns out I forgot one, but I think I'm good.
Bob Dylan- Blonde on Blonde
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
The Who- Tommy
Chicago- Chicago Transit Authority
Chicago- Chicago
Bob Dylan- Self Portrait
Derek & The Dominos - Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs
Can- Tago Mago
Elton John- Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Fleetwood Mac- Tusk (the song Sara is edited)
The Clash- London Calling
I also have Soft Machine's Third, but only digitally, so it doesn't really count.

Legitimately:

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
ELO - Out of the Blue

But I have also edited down Tales from Topographic Oceans to fit on one CD! wink

ELO - Out of The Blue
Joni Mitchell - Don Juan's Reckless Daughter
The Enid - The Spell (though the original vinyl was pressed to play at 45 rpm)
Gong - Gong Live Etc.

Does this one count?

Newton Faulkner - Studio Zoo

For some reason, he released the special edition version of this album as a double album. Even though the special edition's four bonus tracks can all easily fit onto main disc, he put them onto a bonus disc. I honestly have no idea why he did this.

Probably on cost grounds, it meant they didn't have to remaster and repress the first disc. Muck like Steve Hackett's "Tunnel's mouth" initial and reissue.

Personally I wouldn't count this, though I didn't create this thread and so don't make the rules. wink Using your logic, you could make a similar case for Porcupine Tree's The Incident, as the total length of both discs is only about 76 minutes. However, I prefer to think of the second disc as a separate EP.

So, are we counting factory made CD's or home burned ones? If you're gonna edit stuff, anything can be made to fit.

Kate Bush's Aerial is 79 minutes and a few seconds long, so it could fit on one CD, very tightly.
