Prog news

Thought it would be a good idea to provide any prog news from whatever source is available. Here is the news from DPRP:
A Deluxe two CD edition of this 1972 Prog Rock classic including a bonus disc of previously unreleased material is only available from ItsAboutMusic.com. http://www.itsaboutmusic.com/nektar.html
Beginning in 1969, Nektar was always on the cutting edge of Progressive Rock. Europe picked up on their music first but the USA was close behind when the bands third album became their first American release Remember The Future. A Tab In The Ocean preceded it in chronological order but Nektar fans have adored it for decades. And this new pressing along with the bonus disc In The Beginning (recorded in 1969) is sure to bring a smile to the faces of Nektar fans everywhere.
Disc: 1 1. A Tab In The Ocean 2. Desolation Valley/Waves 3. Crying In The Dark 4. King Of Twilight
Disc: 2 1. New Day Dawning 2. Do You Believe In Magic 3. Candlelight 4. Gooday 5. The Life Ive Been Leading 6. Where Did You Go 7. Sealed With A Kiss 8. Our Love Will Last Forever
41POINT9 Still Looking For Answers
41POINT9 is comprised of Bob Madsen, Brian Cline (original vocalist and founding member of Enchant) and Kenny Steel. Joining them on the album are both drummers from Spocks Beard namely Nick DVirgilio and Jimmy Keegan. Musically the band focuses a lot on melody and slightly longer format songs, you can hear some hints of Toto, Enchant, Kino and Spocks Beard in their music.
41POINT9 Still Looking For Answers now available through http://www.progrockrecords.com/ http://www.myspace.com/41point9
The F2 Music label are releasing two new CDs on 11 April 2011 the first is by CREDO, and called Against Reason. The second is by ex-Big Big Train vocalist SEAN FILKINS, a new signing to the label, called War And Peace & Other Short Stories. Both are available for pre-order now. You can hear a track from both albums on the F2 Music player at www.f2music.co.uk
GlassVille Records is a brand new label specialising in Progressive Rock. The labels first release will be the new Paatos album, Breathing, which is due out mid-March.
The second release is planned for April: Sun Domingos new album, featuring John Wesley, Adrian Belew, Steve Hogarth and Bruce Soord.
Albums can be purchased directly through the GlassVille webshop, or via Burning Shed.
Work has now commenced on writing material towards a next 12th MANNING studio album! In fine MANNING tradition, we are going to revisit one of our own previous works to discover more about the family first explored on the 2006 concept album, ANSER S TREE.
7 prototype pieces are being fleshed out by the band at present and some of these new tracks may very well find their way onto some of our 2011 date setlists.
We are very pleased to announce that the fabulous Ed Unitsky has agreed to reprise and re-engineer his original cover artwork for this sequel. A small version can be seen opposite or over on the websites RELEASES page.
We are still hoping that 2011 will finally be the year of the long anticipated documenting of MANNING LIVE in the form of an album/DVD package. Plans are afoot for an Autumn filming schedule.
32 years after their last U.S. performance together, the two progressive-rock legends and founding members of UK, Eddie Jobson and John Wetton, reunite to perform some of their classic material from UK and King Crimson. They will be joined by Austrian guitar virtuoso Alex Machacek and German drumming phenomenon Marco Minnemann.

Thanks for the update Ned.
The Nektar releases are obviously a very good way of exploring their back catalogue and I especially like the idea of a bonus disc. Nektar are normally very good at keeping in touch with their fans by sending regular updates by email, but I haven't seen anything about these releases. It's therefore a good job we have our own Prog Reporter to keep us updated!

Obviously very interested in the new Nektar releases, seems there's going to be 2 cd releases of all the main albums I find it strange too though, that there is nothing about these releases on the official site

41Point9 sounds like a possible order from me - as does the Sean Filkins album.

For their 10th birthday Riverside have prepared a special release which will be available during the forthcoming tour. The EP entitled "Memories In My Head" contains 33 minutes of fresh music. The songs have the following titles:
1.Goodbye Sweet Innocence 2.Living In The Past 3.Forgotten Land
Mariusz Duda: This new material, concerning (for obvious reasons) the themes of the passing time, will be a pleasant surprise for those who have missed the specific kind of melodies and space known from the bands early releases. We have consciously gone back to our beginnings to create a certain kind of a circle. This mini-album will contain three longer compositions most resembling those from our first two albums. The result is a quite interesting, spacious, film-soundtrackish, nostalgic, and most of all rock mixture, summing up our career's first decade quite well. 'Memories In My Head' is an album which appears out of nowhere, without much promotion; we hope, though, that its content can defend itself and that it will evoke a lot of positive emotions. It does that to us, and we will prove it soon, playing those songs live at our upcoming gigs.
The concerts at which it will be possible to buy this minialbum and hear the new songs live will begin on 5th of May in Prague (CZ) and finish on 29th of May in Warsaw (PL). Tides From Nebula, a band from Poland, will support Riverside at the 12 European concerts, and the Pineapple Thief from Great Britain and Paatos from Sweden will do the same at the 6 Polish gigs.
............................................................................... Geoff Downes rejoins Yes Posted on Saturday, 2nd April 2011 by bart Further to our earlier news regarding the upcoming Yes album gFly From Hereh, which is due for release in July, it now seems that Geoff Downes has rejoined the band to play keyboards, as reported by Heavy Rock Playlist:
Quintessential prog-rockers Yes have announced that they have reunited with legendary producer Trevor Horn for their highly anticipated new album, gFly From Hereh. The album marks the bandfs first studio album in ten years.
The album originated from a conversation between Horn and Yes bassist Chris Squire, who re-discovered the song eFly From Heref and realized that it had never been recorded in a studio. gChris and I were talking one evening about the song eFly From Heref that we never recorded,h explains Horn. gI said I was prepared to spend two weeks with Yes recording that song. When I arrived in America to record it, I was taken prisoner by the band and only allowed my freedom again in return for producing the whole album. It was an offer I couldnft refuse!h
gFly From Hereh retains Yesf signature brand of mysticism and large-scale compositions. The record contains plenty of the complex arrangements, beautiful harmonies, and heavy riffs the band is known for. gThe new album represents the best of Yes from the f70s and the f80s with a current twist,h said Squire.
Keyboardist Geoff Downes, who originally joined the band for 1980s gDrama,h, has also re-joined the band for the new album. Yes now consists of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Downes, and lead singer Benoit David.

Abel Ganz announce new date: Friday 20th May @ The Ferry, Glasgow
We are especially looking forward to this one since it is our first gig in our own home town for some time. It is a three band bill with the wonderful Credo who are promoting a brand new album and the re-born Scottish Neo-Prog legends Comedy of Errors who also have a new [1stin decades] CD.
Look out for erstwhile Ganz keyboards maestro Hew Montgomery making an appearance with the Errors on . . . . bass?!!
We really hope some of you can make it along to this one and help promote Prog in Scotland.
Dates confirmed so farc
20/05/11 : GLASGOW | The Ferry | (with Credo & Comedy Of Errors) 21/05/11 : BLACKPOOL | (Electric Garden Festival) 04/06/11 : LONDON, The Peel | (MATTFest 3)

Regarding Riverside's new EP, it sounds as if the fans have spoken and the band listened. I'll bet they're going to use the fans feedback as a gauge for which direction they'll go in the future.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can only hope that Chris Squire's comment about YES' upcoming album representing the band's best from the 70s and 80s, with a current twist, that he doesn't mean they're going to rap. Can you imagine?!
Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing what each of these iconic talents can achieve in 2011.

Rick Wakeman monthly ramblings
In Ricks monthly ramblings he mentions some progress on the Trevor Rabin, Jon Anderson and of course Rick himself project
Just two days ago I received some music from Jon for the Trevor, Jon and Rick project, and its tremendous. Ive also sent some stuff to both the guys as well, so unless there really is something I dont know, then all is progressing really well.
Newly signed, Melodic Revolution Records recording artist, John Orr Franklin releases new digital single Alpha and Omega. In a statement from John Orr Franklin said:
In an effort to take the first single Alpha and Omega to the next level, I brought on Gavin Harrison, drummer from the band Porcupine Tree, as a special guest on the song. Gavin is the drummer I had in mind when I was writing the demos for this album, so naturally the end result is a perfect fit that stays true to my original vision and then some.
Nearing completion of his third full length album, John has begun releasing a series of digital singles to determine the best possible format and packaging for the new release. Ultimately, feedback from the fans will determine the final format for the album. The band would very much like to see the project fully realized on a double vinyl LP with professional cover artwork and digital downloads. The band plans to use the proceeds from sales of the albums first digital singles and they are also planning a fan-based fundraiser on Kickstarter.com in order to see this dream into reality.
The new album entitled Soldier On is a science fiction based story that follows one soldier through his personal trials as he discovers his true identity within the grandeur of a universe that has suddenly gotten much smaller.
