My favourite band after Genesis; we have a big thread going on at the old Genesis site, under other bands. Anyone else rate them?

Gonna be purchasing "Instant Delivery" on DVD in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait. After my first foray into seeing them live on "Meet The Flower Kings," I've got to have more. "Paradox Hotel" and "Space Revolver" are my only TFK CDs....so far

Hi, Demo Man!
We will have to wait to see if they are classed as 'great' but I suspect they have a good chance to be, in the future. Just look at Genesis and Yes; ok, they were very popular in the '70s, but are now held, by some, to be almost venerable. I suspect the same could happen to TFK. Of course, they are not to everyone's taste. But those who like them will continue to like them. And many who sit on the fence now, will probably come to realise just how good they are. The only thing against them is the fact they weren't one of the originals, back in the seventies. If TFK had been around in '70-'72, they would have probably blown away almost all the others. But just because they came later, doesn't mean they are inferior. They are the main reason I got back into prog. I was surprised, pleasantly, to hear a band still performing the type of music I used to enjoy thirty plus years ago!

The only albums I would class as slightly lesser are The Rainmaker, Adam and Eve and Unfold The Future (probably the best of those)- the others I have (including The Flower King) are all 4 star albums, save Space Revolver which I think is a 5 star effort- their most consistent album, imho. |

Interesting to see other people's views on TFK albums. I rated them all on ProgArchives last year or so, (with the exception of Paradox Hotel, but I will) and since then I would probably raise them all a star. The more I listen to them, the more I am taken aback by their superb musicianship and finely crafted songs. For me, my least fave is Space Revolver, exactly the opposite to you. But I still think it's a great album. Next up would be Rainmaker, but that too gets unfair criticism sometimes. It's another good'un (for me). At the top, always, is Flower Power, with Unfold The Future a close second, and then it's a free for all between the rest. They move up and down my ranking list at random, depending which one I am in the mood for! I have just finished playing my latest acquisition - TFK - Alive On Planet Earth. I got it from Amazon yesterday at a decent price. It's stunning! One of the best live albums I have heard. But then I wouldn't expect anything less from this band now.

Hey Nikki! Nice to see you again. 'It's been a long, long time...hasn't it?' (obvious Genesis quote thrown in there just to show off, hee hee)
Hope you enjoy your dvd. We just got our dvd player set up, and that dvd could be the first one I purchase. Just got in the post TFK - Alive On Planet Earth. I shouldn't really have splashed out again, but it was available on Amazon for a decent price. It's stunning! Superb quality, musicianship, etc etc. This band just gets better and better!

Hi everyone, have just joined following the changes to the official forum. Was an occaisonal poster on the TFK thread.
Still enjoying Steve's gift pack, especially the TFK Rotherham gig.
I was Paul Ebery on the old forum. This one rejected my name, so I had to plump for an old nickname!
Anyway, still enjoying TFK.
Chessman, 'Alive on Planet Earth' was my first TFK CD following an extract of 'Judas Kiss' on a 'Classic Rock' CD. It took some time to get in to and I have recently started listening to it following my re-enlightenment through the mega thread that Nov started. Haven't looked back since!
