Uk convention 2007
Post by lamia pool attendant on Mar 5th, 2007, 07:45am

After the tremendous success and buzz created by last year's events at the Astoria a group of like minded souls thought it would be a good idea to try and maintain that energy and enthusiasm. So there we were, all ready to pay our deposit having secured the commitment of the talent when the real thing go and surprise us all by coming back. So we waited until the gigs had been decided in europe and what the North American timescale was likely to be, before we met again to see whether the real thing would help, hinder or make no difference to what we were proposing.

Happily it was decided that it would not hinder us. So back on track the undernoted URL brings you details of this year's convention north of Hadrian's Wall. It's not that far, really and we don't bite. For the most part, anyway. The website is a work in progress but it does provide the essential details of who, what, where, when and at what cost. It also provides some additional info beyond that. We will regularly update the site as matters progress and further events unfold.

Suffice it to say the proceedings will follow more or less the format of previous conventions featuring some familiar faces to those who have attended conventions previously or regularly attend tribute shows and some newcomers, at least to the convention scene. There may be additional talent to be added to the second day but this will be decided in due course. For now the line up is as per the website.

In addition to updating the site we will send circular emails to alert you to any major changes of which you should be aware so that you are kept in the loop at all times. For now if you have any questions please send to the webmaster at the site or the contact us email and we will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as we can.

Hope you can make it. Regards.

Tony
(PS I'm aware it can't be googled yet, that will be rectified shortly)

Time it carefully, Jo, the convention is at the tail end of the Festival, so you MIGHT be able to do both.

As ST mentioned earlier, Glasgow is only 80Kms (50 miles, in old money),west of Edinburgh, & we don't put sauce on your chips. grin

Hi, Ali, the tickets should be heading out shortly. There was a recent change of plan about the printing and distribution and the ticket should now come to you from the Secc who are now dealing with that aspect. any help you need on the hotel, let me know, although beyond the links on the webpage and suggesting seeglasgow.com and such like, my assistance as someone who has never needed to stay in a hotel in my former hometown may be limited. Likewise any problem with your T order, let me know.

Well, as I said, TM, we will most likely be going to the Lindenbrau for a meal before hand.(They do a nice Schnitzel!). It's a very central location, & close to the Potsdammer Platz Bahnhof, which is a main S Bahn/U Bahn hub, and access from there to the Olympiastadion.

I've not been to the stadium before so it's a trip into the unknown for us too, but I imagine the transport links will be good, following the World Cup last year.

So if you fancy a 0.5l of Weisebrau, thats the place! (DON'T order the 1ltr, unless you want to feel like you are using someone elses legs! It comes in a large vase!) shocked grin rolleyes

I'm envious. Enjoy yourselves in Berlin - it's a great place to visit. I lived there for a year in my "youth", back in the days when there was a wall and a resident in Spandau Prison, and have revisited it many times since.
If you have not booked accommodation, have a look on e-bay as several hotels, including the big chains, auction rooms there. Sometimes you can get a real bargain. Good examples are:
Item number: 160108120233
Item number: 200100608561
Item number: 110115735580
Happy bidding and enjoy Berlin!

We're already booked into the NH Hotele Treptow, which is not actually in Treptow, it's in Schönewiede!

It's a nice hotel, and handy for the S Bahn, & Shönefeld Flughafen.

Top notch Mozo.

Right, everyone else. Now that we're going 'cold turkey' after the UK shows, what better way to cheer yourselves up than to grab a ticket for the Convention at the end of August? Should be one of the best yet, if we keep the atmosphere going from Old Trafford and Twickers. So, pop along to http://www.genesis2007.co.uk and get the best value that 35 quid can buy! cool

There's 50 in a pack and I think I can get them for a £10 each, let me know how many you think we'll need.

Hi Oz

Sounds great. We'll probably need in the region of 300 (fingers crossed!!!), which makes a total of 60 quid. Seems quite a lot. I'll have a hunt around for something similar too. It may be that that's the going rate for thsi type of thing.

Tony Banks' Leslie Cabinet
Post by hairlessheart on Jul 27th, 2007, 09:03am

Hi all

Thanks to Ant Phillips and Genesis, who have been very kind to donate it, we're going to be putting Tony's original Leslie Cabinet up for auction at the Genesis Convention on 25th/26th August. This is a true one-off item, which was made for Tony by then band member John Mayhew and was used at gigs during that early period.
Thanks also go to Alan Hewitt, for helping to make this happen.
More details to follow, but if you're intersted, get yourself a ticket to come along and catch a piece of Genesis history. cool

Cheers

Hi Melody

Just bring along a print-out of your confirmation and one of us will meet you at the door. There will be someone from the Convention gang on the door at all times, just to make sure that all money for tickets sold ends up where it should, if you know what I mean? wink

Re: Uk convention 2007

12 noon indeed. We had planned for the bands to start at 7pm on both days, but because we have 3 on Saturday and want to finish at a reasonable time for transport etc, we're thinking about Doug & Tony starting at roughly 5.30 pm. More precise timings to follow over the next few days.
There will, of course, be stuff going on earlier during the day, such as video shows, quiz, raffle.

Cheers

Hi

We're happy to announce that each of the bands over the weekend is going to be recorded onto DVD, which will be released via the normal torrent sites. This will give us a great memento of the event and allow friends who can't come, such as Rosie and Paloma, to soak up the atmosphere.
Couple that with the coverage that www.rock247online.co.uk are going to be doing from the venue and think we're covering all bases.
One week to go - hope to see you all there.

Doug

A pertinent and I think sensible question for the organisers.

If a person (little old me, for example) wished to attend for say, a couple of hours on the sunday - how much would it cost, and who should I hand the money to?

Hi Keltic

There will be someone from the Convention Crew on the door at all times, so don't worry about not being able to pay! wink

In terms of cost, the price isn't really being split on a per-band basis, and would be £20 on the door for a daily ticket. That would allow you to come and go as you please all day.

Cheers

Doug

your cash will be fine K-man. As a shameless promotion of the Sat, I know that FV may not be your cup of Darjeeling, being predominantly PC era, but they are a superb outfit. I don't think G2 can be beaten for the Seconds Out era, again they are superb and with former Regen singer and keys player doing the PG unplugged set, the Sat will be a complete knock out.

So if you can't make the Sun for any reason the Sat lineup will more than compensate if you can make that. Add in loads of great prizes, cool merchandsise, great beers - Leffe and Hoegaarden on draught to name but a few- some great video footage on large and not so large screens all around, and great company all day, it'd be shame to miss it on your doorstep.

yes tis a pity, bumped into the MM in the BLaise before OT and to his credit was gain apologetic that the pre-booked holiday must prevail.

And yes Fv will be closing the Sat night, K-man. But with lots of double drumming -logistics permitting -from Carpet Crawlers on the Sun and crowd faves ITC closing you should still get good value. And I will be foregoing my usual seat in Paradise on the Sat, which reminds me, must call my old man to see if he wants the use thereof.

BTW if anyone wants to look at setlists these can be posted or PM'ed. I have them kicking about somewhere but on the work pc.

Now I'm feeling bad because I think I saw you Catherine. Were you standing at the speaker nearest the bar downstairs during G2's set?

No I wasn't in red... I was wearing a short-sleeved brown checked shirt and dark green jeans... I was standing at the speaker nearsnt to the bar downstairs indeed, but only for the last 2 or 3 songs of the G2 set - I thought I'd better stand up and get a bit more active cos otherwise I'd have fallen asleep - I was SO incredibly tired after my 17 day non stop working spree, up at bloody 6 every day.. Call me lazy but I like my beauty sleep... grin

In fact, Choccy I think we did make eye contact at one point - you were heading in the direction of the ladies room and I was sitting on my chair at the bar side of the stage - where I spent most of the night.. and just for a split second you looked at me and smiled smiley

Yes Catherine, I think we did see each other fleetingly, although I couldn't put 2 and 2 together (silly burke I am)
I was standing on the far side of the mixing desk in the doorway. smiley
