Phil can't, Peter won't, Steve would but the others don't care.....How about we call it a day lads?

I dont think there will ever be a full-blown reunion with PG, mainly because of PG but also because of PCs health and (im)possible role in such a reunion.

When I read the interview with TB I almost get the feeling that he's determined to actually get the tree of them together when PC's tour has ended.

However, if TB, MR and PC reunited, what exactly would they do? They did a tour in 2007 which included most of their hit songs and a fair selection of the most important old songs. Is it really meaningful to (try to) do almost the same thing again? I see two other options:

1) Record a new album, but maybe they hesitate over this? The music business has changed and the band will not have the status it once had on the record market. On the other hand, the rules apply to all artists active today and how much do sales figures say anyway in the new music world with streaming and without physical single releases? I note that Pink Floyd's The Endless River sold 2.5 million copies in its release year 2014 is that a feasible goal for a Genesis release?

2) Play live, but with a different approach. Genesis never played a live acoustic set when PC was in the band, although of course the 1998 tour had an acoustic section. In 2000 however TB, MR, PC and DS reunited for a one-off show in honour of Tony Smith. Maybe that would be an interesting concept for a full show? I mean, acoustic or semi-acoustic versions of their old songs. That way they will do something artistically new and I think it would be an easier role for PC. Also PG and SH could do a guest appearance for some 70s songs. With the played down acoustic concept noone will expect PC and PG to sing like they did or jump around the stage like they did.

Could all the threads about the breaking news of the imminent Genesis reunion be merged into one?

Since a classic lineup reunion is now a practical impossibility, the best possible reunion scenario I can envisage is two shows, one featuring Peter & Steve, the other featuring Phil & Daryl; Mike, Tony & Chester playing in both versions.

I wouldn't necessarily want a full Lamb show from the Gabriel lineup, since there are so many wonderful songs from the previous four albums that deserve to be revisited. A Lamb tour would still be incredible, but I'd prefer a retrospective show covering all of the best material from Trespass to The Lamb. One upshot of this would be that the Collins lineup wouldn't need to include any pre-1976 material in the set, so long-neglected deep cuts from Trick, Wind & Duke could take the place of In the Cage, Firth of Fifth, etc. satisfying prog fans, albeit with songs featuring fewer long instrumental breaks that would leave Phil with nothing to do.

I've never been one for splitting the discography on vocalist alone, but in terms of having a satisfying reunion, it seems like the best option at this stage.

Or when Peter says he is on board. Can't possibly think whichever is more unlikely.
