Mike's guitar tunings
« Thread started on: Feb 25th, 2010, 1:46pm »
Just transfering these over as I didn't see them in a thread here:
Cinema Show: Acoustic 12 string tuning in first half only - the second half is in standard tuning.
1st & 2nd strings: E (unison) 3rd & 4th strings: B (unison) 5th string: G 6th string: down to E 7th string: D 8th string: down to A 9th & 10th strings: down to G (+ octave) 11th & 12th strings: down to D (+ octave)
I never thought about this before: how did Mike deal with all the different tunings in live concerts? He can't possibly have kept re-tuning his guitars all the time. Did he have a number of guitars in prepared different tunings, or did he translate everything into standard tuning?

The tuning for More Fool Me is incorrect. It's in standard tuning, expect for the two G strings that are tuned up to G#. It's brutal on a 12-string to do this so you might want to tune the other strings down, leave the G strings as is and use a capo on the first fret. That way, your high G string, in particular, won't pop every time. Hope this helps.
