I remember first listening to Foreigner's "Long, Long Way from Home" and thinking, "This sounds like the Who." And then it got to the second "And I hope we'll be here when they're through with us!" and I was like, "OMG Phil should have sung this!"
Then again, it sounds more like Abacab/Mama Phil, and this song is from 1977.
Also, a bit more on topic, I've heard that lady who reviewed the '98 archives describe Peter's "Genesis voice" as an "old goat". The end of his sentences on some live bootlegs does sound like Dennis DeYoung at times, especially when ending a sentence by stretching out a vowel sound. Anyone know what I mean?

I others that Dancing with the moonlit knight, battle of epping forest, and looking of someone are very strong for Peter. I was always impressed with how high Phil gets on the original studio version of Ripples in the verses. Both release live versions aren't quite as food for this reason, especially the 2007 one. As for Peter, I love his performance on the solo dog I Grieve. He holds it out for so long. "I grieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeve" Also his "gabrielese" non-word vocals are often impressing.

For my two cents, I much prefer Phil's voice to Peter's. I tuned into Genesis in the 80's and got to know Phil first which might have something to do with it. But Phil sounds like a natural singer to me. I don't think very many singers can sound good singing both edgy songs and gentle songs. Phil can pull off both. Peter in the 70's sounds like he was always struggling to hit the notes. I also don't like the way Peter would pronounce certain words in the early days. I will agree with what was said earlier that Peter delivers a lot of character but not as much natural talent. I do think Peter found his voice on later solo records, which I do like, but he doesn't have the diversity of Phil. Favorite Phil vocals include Mama, Afterglow (3sl) and one not yet mentioned: Tonight, Tonight, Tonight
