I know that the common opinion here is that SEBTP is perhaps the best PG album and TOTT is the fav among PC years.

If you had to pick only one with you to a desert island what will it be?

Wonderful as A Trick of the Tail is, my vote goes to Selling England by the Pound, which I'd choose over any other Genesis (or non-Genesis) album if asked. The peaks are just so unbelievably high that nothing else could ever stand a chance.

Yikes, got to be TOTT. While I'd heave a very heavy sigh for DWTMK and of course the masterful Cinema Show and Firth, Trick has a wafer-thin advantage in terms of overall quality. This, I think, is because the desire to prove that they were more than PG's backing band made the four of them push themselves more, and the loss of PG's genius was actually over-compensated for.

SEBTP is a great album, very atmospheric and unlike anything else that was around at the time. Nevertheless, ATOTT is my second favourite Genesis album behind The Lamb and therefore my vote goes to that. (It also boasts my favourite Genesis album cover) cool

Interestingly, I remember reading years ago that, whilst Genesis themselves are classed as a fully symphonic prog band, as opposed to a neo-prog band, ATOTT is often cited as the first neo-prog album and that it helped bring about the whole neo-prog movement. wink

My top 2 G-Albums. Trick for me. There is no such thing as perfection but Trick borders on that in my book, in hindsight I can hear what imo could have been better but the emotional impact it had on me as a teen was simply massive. SEBTP a is a very close second.

A Trick Of The Tail. It's my favorite Genesis album. SEBTP is up there.

Selling England, by a very long stretch. While not keen on Battle, everything else is excellent and even within Battle I really like 'The Reverend' section, a potentially great standalone song. Trick has 4 and a half great songs in Entangled, Squonk, Ripples, Los Endos and the first half of Dance, but for me dips badly in the middle with MMM and RA&B.

Both polls were quite easy for me. Trick is brilliant but it still can't stand a chance against the unique genius of Selling England.
About Foxtrot vs. The Lamb... my answer should be obvious smiley

Personally, I love Battle, it is definetely not the best song on the album, I can see why they think it is too busy and probably not Peter's best vocal lines but the musicianship is top notch, the lyrics are great and there are moments of sheer beauty and brilliance, the 'reverend' of course being one of those but even more so, the instrumental bridges after the 'picnic' bits. I obviously can live without More Fool Me but no harm done. I truly don't like After the Ordeal, personally, I find it pedestrian.
Trick has imo 6 great songs on it, sorry, I love MMM and 2 weaker songs, the title track and robbery, however, they are not as weak as other weaker songs on other albums.
One last thing, Trick is imo the first decently produced Genesis album.

SEBTP is by far my favourite Genesis album, although I really dislike More Fool Me. TOTT gets quite close....

I didn't actually say I dislike it, much less actively, I find it harmless and forgettable, plus, I don't think it fits on the album but as I said it is not something I feel compelled to skip and as far as I can remember reading, there were no major argumets within the band about including it or less, probably because it was regarded for what it is; a quite minor thing.

Sorry, I trimmed your quote incorrectly. I was referring to "After The Ordeal". It amazes me that many people seem to not like it.
