What would you include in the most disjointed Genesis best of of all time?
One that would totally and utterly confuse the casual or completely new to Genesis listener?

Here's my confusing "6 x 2" of The Best:

They must of course be segued so that each track runs 'smoothly' into the next...

1.Who Dunnit
2.In Hiding
3.Phret
4.Me And Virgil
5.Cuckoo Cocoon
6.Since I Lost You
7.One Eyed Hound
8.Ballad Of Big
9.Do The Neurotic
10.The Knife
11.Alien Afternoon
12.Harold The Barrel

Over to you for your most perplexing dozen! wink

I'm not sure what's supposed to be "best" about the selections, but I can certainly do "perplexing"...

1. Paperlate
2. A Winter's Tale
3. Happy The Man
4. The Waiting Room
5. Pacidy
6. Calling All Stations
7. Harlequin
8. Submarine
9. Aisle Of Plenty
10. Another Record
11. The Return Of The Giant Hogweed
12. Congo

I don't think anyone who submits one of these hates all of the songs in their respective lists. The songs are just meant to be extremely random to the point of not belonging together at all.

Exactly!

I'm sure it's not about hating any song.Just highlighting how disparate/varied/different the whole Genesis catalogue can be.

The idea came from a comment Don Henley said about trying to get somebody to appreciate The Grateful Dead.
He said their musical history was so wide and varied he wouldn't know where to start in initiating a new listener to their music..(or words to that affect).

That made me think of how I felt when I first started to listen to Genesis.

I would listen to Trespass whilst listening to 'Three Sides live' at the same time and think 'Wow, this group have really produced some varied music over the years'...and that was back in 1982 before Invisible Touch was even a gleam in the group's eye!

the singles released until 1977 make a pretty disjointed playlist.

the silent sun
the knife
happy the man
watcher of the skies [archive version]
i know what i like
counting out time
the carpet crawlers
a trick of the tail
entangled
your own special way
match of the day

the most incoherent album by far i've ever listened to is pretenders' get close, from 1986. no one can beat that.

12 random tracks off Archive 1 Disc 4 and the CAS non-album tracks, picked by rolling a dice. Bonus track: one of the various remixes of I Can't Dance, randomly picked of course.

I notice that a few certain songs keep showing up on the various lists. (I tried to make mine not have any songs from the prior lists.)
