Hogweeds and hemaphtodies aside which songs that take on a serious topic do you find to be the best.

Driving the last spike
No son of mine
Land of confusion
Inside and out

My favorit song period is
Dreaming While You Sleep. Especially live

Always the mighty Land Of Confusion, plus the other songs you mention, plus Home By The Sea, plus Entangled, Domino, etc.

Home By The Sea? Never took "bumps in the night" that seriously, but maybe it's based on personal experience...

"Ripples," which is about, as Phil says, "the passage of time and the coming of old age." Serious, solemn, and exquisitely lovely.

almost everyone likes driving the last spike.

i'll mention a great serious song that doesn't come to mind easily because it was a b-side: feeding the fire.

I see it as a serious song because of the eerieness & sense of discomfort throughout 'as we relive our lives through what we tell you'. The sense of being trapped with no way out.

Just one of eight spotless blocks of gold that together make up the greatest prog rock album ever! cheesy

For me one would be Vocal Guide/Dukes Travels, but from my own interpretation of the lyrics. I'm not sure what the words are really about, (most likely about a broken relationship) but to me I view it from the point of view from God. He's telling humanity that he gave us a chance on earth but since we f--ked everything up here (wars, famine, destruction of the earth...) he has given up on us and we're on our own now.

I'd go with either It's Gonna Get Better, Land Of Confusion or Driving The Last Spike.

Honorable Mentions would be Tell Me Why, Way Of The World and One Man's Fool.
