question The Truth Behind "Supper's Ready"
« Thread started on: Feb 18th, 2017, 7:40pm »

As many of you have probably heard before, the lyrics of "Supper's Ready" were supposedly inspired by some supernatural occurrences that Peter Gabriel and his first wife, Jill, had experienced.

What do you think of this? Was Gabriel telling the truth? Were they under the influence of some kind of drug?

He insists there was no drug-taking involved. He's even mentioned before that the bright purple décor of the room they were in might have "acted as an echo-chamber" for the phenomena he witnessed due to the frequencies of those colours!

On one hand he doesn't seem like a bullshitter, but on the other hand, he came up with convoluted fanciful stories on stage, so who knows?!

But in a sense, also, who cares? Whatever lyrically sparked off that initial bit, the main thing is they married that with Banks's acoustic piece and it led to a great song. For that, he's welcome to embroider a bad trip, if that's what it was.
