question What Kinda Cars?
« Thread started on: Jun 20th, 2017, 2:39pm »

I have a long drive to work every day, and one of the things I do to occupy my time is to survey the cars going past. It may seem geeky, but I have mentally categorized the popularity of various makes, depending on the area I'm driving through.

In order, the cars most driven in what I'll call South-Central Pennsylvania are:

Ford
Chevrolet
Toyota
Honda
Nissan
Mazda
Subaru
Hyundai
Kia

Just out of curiosity, what kind of cars are driven where you're at? smiley

Except for Chevrolet you will see all those here in South West Germany too. Add VW, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Peugeot... And here and then some random trendy electric car.

We have a Ford Ranger truck, a Chrysler PT Cruiser and a Chevy Corvette. Our neighbors own Ford vehicles. Mom owns a Mitsubishi. Our kids own Chevy and Pontiac.

As for what's on the road in SoCal, it runs the gamut. I've seen more and more Hummers on the road the past few years. Vehicle owners, on average, certainly don't appear to be buying cars that are kind to the environnent, although our granddaughter's hubby does drive a Prius grin

In the East part of Germany, you have all the brands, Schrottrocker mentioned, plus

- Trabant
- Wartburg
- Lada.

I for one drive a Volkswagen.

Don't bother too much looking at vehicles, only what's reliable.

Owned 4 VW's , 2 Vauxhalls , 2 Austin's or BL, I Mazda and 1 Toyota... The Toyota was the most reliable, lasting 15 years in my hands.. grin

The following cars mentioned so far aren't generally seen around where I live (Florida), though I have seen all of them in car shows/museums:
Austin
Citroen
Opel
Peugeot
Renault
Trabant
Vauxhall

I have never in my life seen a Lada, Skoda or Wartburg.

Some cars that are common around here and haven't been mentioned so far:
Chrysler
Fiat
Jaguar
Maserati
Mini
Porsche
Smart

Other ones commonly seen, even though they're no longer made: Mercury, MG, Plymouth, Pontiac.

Me neither. Never heard of them smiley

In parts of Florida I'm sure you see lots of Cadillacs too.

Oh of course, I forgot Fiat, Porsche and Smart.

Everyone should enjoy a cruise in a Trabant once in your lifetime. But only once. It will be an unforgettable experience cheesy

That's definitely true about the Caddy's in Florida. I also see a lot of them around here in the Ocean/Monmouth County areas of NJ.

Part of that I'm sure is because that's what I drive so I think maybe I just notice when I see another one. grin A big reason though is there are a lot of retirement communities around here and they're popular cars with the people living in those.

Never heard of Wartburg.

Lada and Skoda used to be seen as being on the same level of cr*pness. Skoda, however, reinvented themselves and are now respected, with some of their models winning "Car of the Year" accolades in UK car magazines.

I drive a Vauxhall, really commonplace here. As are Fords and all the German, French, Japanese and Korean makes already mentioned in the thread.
