xx Relatives Will Be Friends
« Thread started on: Dec 2nd, 2011, 2:10pm »

A good few years ago, maybe 25-30 years ago, I used to write lyrics/poems and I've recently come across some of them so I thought I'd put one on here and see what reaction I got.
This one's called "Relatives Will Be Friends"

Old man...................At home
Sitting by.................The telephone
No one there...........All alone
Can't go out............Nowhere to roam

His family.................And his friends
Never there............So he pretends
Receives no letters....None he sends
He prays..................It all ends

He recalls.................In '45
His glorious deeds....To wonder why
How he survived......Didn't die
Turns away...............Begins to cry

Thinks about............,His departed wife
She had brought.......Him to life
Happiness.................Then was rife
Now it hurts..............cuts like a knife

Nothing else..............He can do
Sits and stares..........At his shoew
Can't get up..............Unable to
Dozes off..................That's nothing new

No one calls..............Seems no one cares
No one phones..........No ones dares
If they do..................They call in pairs
Don't come in far.......Just to the stairs

Home help comes......Once a week
Just nips in................For a peek
What a nerve............What a cheek
What do they want......What do they seek

If he died.....................Family would call
Relatives.....................Old friends an' all
Just to see..................What he'd left them all
At his wake.................They'd have a ball

I'd placed chords around it so it must have a tune to it but I can't remember how it went
