xx Previously unreleased Lamb.... 20.4.75 recording
« Thread started on: Nov 28th, 2014, 04:58am »

Hi there

A friend of mine has recently unearthed an audience recording of the band's final Lamb.. show in Liverpool on 20th April 1975 as well as one from the Free Trade Hall show in '73 from which the Genesis Live album was taken. He is currently in the process of having these digitally transferred. Will they be of interest?

Yes, and I know who you mean having been in discussion with him myself. Can't wait for these to become available...

Is the Free Trade Hall recording different to the one currently in circulation, originally recorded by Chris Gregory? He posted two versions on The Movement a couple of years ago, a raw transfer and a slightly re-worked version with some EQ and speed/pitch correction.

I thought this show was 10-10-72 at the Free Trade Hall, and not the one from Genesis Live. This I believe has the earliest known recording of Supper's Ready predating 11/18/72 Imperial College London. I remember the discussion of these shows back on the old ning site some years ago. But yes I'm very excited to hear both shows one day!

I'd heard the rumours of a 10.10.72 Free Trade Hall recording years back but thought that turned out to be a hoax. The supposed inclusion of Supper's Ready would indicate that it's bogus as well, I think we can be certain it wasn't performed on that tour when they were opening for Lindisfarne and restricted to a 40-45 minute set, a core of Watcher, GEOBF, Musical Box and Hogweed with maybe one extra song if time allowed. All the surviving recordings (Dublin, Aberdeen, Bradford and Lewisham) bare that out and they followed the same format at the show I saw at Stoke, nine days after the Free Trade Hall gig, when they added Dusk to the core set.

Supper's Ready wasn't brought into the set until they went out on a number of one-nighters following the Lindisfarne tour. It's debut is usually reckoned to be at Brunel University, Uxbridge on 10 November, I'm sure I've still got a cutting of the Melody Maker review by Chris Welch somewhere - and ironically that gig also has a recording wrongly attributed to it.

Sorry but people here are confused. The Manchester show talked about is the 73 show not the 72...

wink

Not confused, just making the point in reply to logan75's post that the long-rumoured '72 Free Trade Hall recording, which was supposed to be about to surface several years back, was almost certainly a hoax - and that even if such a thing did exist it definitely wouldn't include Supper's Ready. Look forward to hearing the new source of the '73 FTH show though, that was my second Genesis gig following the previously mentioned Stoke show on the Lindisfarne tour a few months earlier.

Hi there

I remember many moons the furore over the supposed recording of the band from Lewisham Odeon in '72 which wasn't as advertised. These two should make interesting listening and as they are both from master recordings they should be reasonable quality.

It's been awhile for me since I've browsed this forum, but I was just wondering if there were any updates regarding these shows?

I do miss reading the bootleg forum on the old site...
