The blurb on Ant's website says 1984 will be reissued in a 'deluxe digipak' as opposed to the clamshell boxes used for PPP 1-4, Sides, Wise After The Event and The Geese And The Ghost.
Hoping this is a typo, to me it seems an odd decision to change the packaging now. Any thoughts?

Agreed - seems a strange departure huh

Also, I see that Steven Wilson gets a couple of name checks in the blurb but nowhere does it say who actually did the 5.1 remix. That makes me a bit suspicious undecided

Cheers,

Not sure about the 5.1 - maybe Simon Heyworth?

Anyway, not long to wait now, I've really enjoyed all these reissues!

Hi there

I am pretty sure that Simon Heyworth has done the remastering on this although I am sure Steven Wilson would do a fantastic job too. Can't wait for this one as it is one of my favourite Ant albums.

Yes - but, as we all know, remastering is not the same as 5.1 remixing.

Who did the 5.1 remix and, if it wasn't Steven Wilson, why is he mentioned?

The 5.1 remix of 1984 has been done by Simon Heyworth and Andy Miles - the same team responsible for the 5.1 mixes of The Geese & The Ghost, Wise After The Event and Sides.

The mention for Steven Wilson in the blurb for the re-issue of the album is due to the fact that he's a big fan of 1984.

Thanks Jonathan - very modest of you not to mention your excellent essays in these Ant reissues!

That's good enough for me! smiley

Many thanks,

Another high quality reissue of classic Ant material for me. Nice package too - although I prefer the clamshell the other reissues have.

A few of my thoughts:

Nice review but I have to correct something: there are guitar parts on 1984, if not too many, but you can hear the electric lead guitar doubling some lead synth lines.

Thanks, I stand corrected - I always assumed there were no guitars! I've changed the review to say 'With relatively few audible guitar parts'...

Hi there

Apparently Steve Wilson had offered to do the 5.1 remastering of the album but when he realised just how much work it would entail due to the way in which the album was created, he had to pass on doing it. Simon has done a superb job just the same.
