What's your favorite of his albums?

IV for me! cool

Me too! A tough call between that and the debut.

So...

I'll have to vote for "So" (the original vinyl tracklisting, not the 2003 remaster tracklisting). It was one of the first albums I ever bought and remains to be one of my favorite albums to this day.

It's So but IV is very close.

1, by a whisker over 2.

Definitely So.

That is interesting. Number 2 is definitely my least favorite one. And although I like the first one, I find it suffers heavily from Bob Ezrin`s overproduction

The ones I have, I would rank like this:

01) SO

.
.
.
big gap
.
.
.

02) IV
03) III
04) Us
05) I
06) Up
07) II

Up is definitely a great album, but I never really got into it. Nevertheless it includes one of my favorite PG songs, which is More Than This.

Why is there such a large gap?

SO is such an immaculate and flawless album, that it stands beyond everything else, Peter has done, imo.

But then again, there are some of his other tracks, which easily can compete with it. Shaking The Tree is an example or the live version of Secret World, which in my opinion is simply a perfect song.

But as an album, he never did anything before and after, that is as great as SO.

Agreed.

I

So far, lots of love on here for his first solo ten years & far less for the next thirty! Apart from 2 great tracks on Us, I'll go along with that smiley

2 is full of interesting, quirky songs, 1 is just wall to wall good (not great, but good).

3 was Ok, but in my view, a failed experiment, and 4 has 2 good songs and filler, sorry folks, that's how it is to me. Gave 3 & 4 away, and didn't buy any more.

Been playing IV a lot recently, but still like III the most.

US and probably 4/security is a close second

Gotta say I'm surprised to see how many count Melt as their favorite-I wouldn't have predicted that...I know there's only 17 votes in but still...

I went with Us as my #1, which I'm also surprised wasn't rated higher. I thought that was generally liked by fans...I love it-and it has some nostalgic value for me as well. This was one that I actually really didn't like at first-but then after some time, it slowly grew on me. I would put So first, but IMO it's just a little bit.....TOO perfect, if you know what I mean...

My ranking would be:

1. Us
2. So
3. Security
4. Up
5. Melt
6. Ovo (seldom mentioned, but I quite enjoy this one)
7. Car
8. Scratch

I think Us is a great album, it's just that I like Melt, Security, and So even better.

III was monumental for me at the time in that it was the first solo release of any of the G-men up to then that I thought was better than the recent or contemporary releases of Genesis.
There is not a wasted moment.

As a teenager, this music touched a chord and spoke to me.
If I was ever guilty of elevating Gabriel as some sort of deity or genius, it was the cumulative result of his previous work and capped by this album.

To this day, that album to me represents Peter at the top of his game as a creative musical force.

My top 5 :

Car (bought it when it first came out and even tho the production is dreadful I have always loved it )

Scratch
Melt
Us
Ovo

My least fav has always been So, don't know why just never got into it. One reason is I cannot stand Don't Give Up, I know everyone seems to love it but I just find it very very boring angry

Very hard to select between my top 3: III, IV, and So.

III is the most thematically unified, focusing on fears and horrors. Sonically it is equally jarring and disturbing, a perfect match for the material.

IV is my favourite sonically, with the extensive use of the Fairlight wrapping everything together with the same textures and tones. If only he could have skipped the The Family and the Fishing Net, which for me is an example of Peter trying too hard to work a metaphor.

So is a beautiful album that covers a wide range of material and styles. I always enjoy listening to it and it is easy to see why it is so accessible to the wider public.

It has always been PG3 but with the years I must say US has grown on me considerably and the margin is getting narrower. I personaly find PG1&2 quite disappointing and I remember being highly unimpressed by UP and taking the heat for that. Looking at the poll it seems time has put things in perspective.

Where's "Passion"? OK, it's a soundtrack but what an album!

I voted for Us. Just have to skip Kiss That Frog every time undecided

PG2 has grown a lot on me over the years.

A lot of what you say here chimes with me very much. I was 14 when it came out, and it's one of those rare moments in my music listening where I felt the ground shift beneath me, possibly how some felt when Revolver came out. I was already a PG fan, but this was such a leap forward from 1 and 2. It hit home just how different music could sound. And I still think Intruder is one of my favourite ever opening tracks of any album by any artist.

...but I didn't vote for it! IV's always been a close second, and as it was trailing in the poll I decided to bump its results up.

It's a while since I regularly listened to any PG albums all the way through but at the time I listened to those two a lot. Most recently, 2 or 3 years back I listened to Up straight through for the first time in a long time and enjoyed it far more than I expected.

I chose IV although it was a tough choice. I my top 2 spot would be between So and II.

I really like III but I dig the others a lot more.
