question Peter Gabriel Solo vs. Post-Hackett Genesis
« Thread started on: Jul 9th, 2017, 1:31pm »

There's already been a poll comparing Peter's work with Genesis as a whole, but any discography is guaranteed to suffer to some extent in comparison with one that includes such masterpieces as Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and A Trick of the Tail. Peter's solo career versus Genesis' post-1977 output seemed like a fairer competition with a less predictable result.

Which do you prefer, to what extent and why?

maybe peter's music is more raw and emotional. i have the feeling that he turns his deepest thoughts into songs. a bit like a freudian therapy.

on the other hand, genesis music is more of a fantasy world, even their post-hackett albums.

i have many teenage memories attached to genesis albums, while i discovered peter's solo work later, and that's why i vote for genesis. but i couldn't live without any of them, really.

Genesis will always come first for me although I love Peter's work.

I didn't vote, fact is I don't care much for Peter's first two albums, they are, apart from a couple of songs on each, inconsistent imo.
I don't think much of ATTW either but I still prefer it to what Peter was doing at the time.

As of PG3 however, as far as I am concerned, Peter reverted that trend completely.

Call me an entitled lazy millennial, but due to the fact Peter Gabriel won't put his music on streaming sites, I haven't bothered trying to get into his solo work. I know I should, but he makes it awkward. So sod him.

Or you? wink Joking aside I think it's more your loss than his, I reckon at this stage of his life and career he'll be fine.
