xx Remastered Collection 2002
« Thread started on: Dec 29th, 2016, 2:31pm »

In 2002 PG remastered his collection.

I just purchased from ebay this collection in a box set i believe it to be a blue or purple coloured box with the lettering embroided.

Was just wondering if anyone else had this. Its my understanding it was for promo only so not many were made. Back in 2002 i had purchased these disc individually and never herd of it being in a box.

While on the subject of remastering. Ive learned only recent that his collection has ben remastered several times over since then. I was wondering if anyone knows how to identify which remaster i may have. Some cds are in a digi format with pgrw1 marking or in jewled cases. Is their a way to identify these. Particularly if i want to continue in that specific format.

There have been some reissues of the 2002 remasters, but as far I am aware of, there have been no new "remasters" that I know about. What you are likely seeing are simply repackages of those 2002 versions.

The only actual remastering I can think of are possibly for the recent vinyl releases. But offhand I'm not sure what the source of these would have been.

Ok that makes sence then.

What i guess im trying to find out is. I ordered his catalog on walmart.com and most of them came in a digipack i guess is whats its called. The cardboard sleve. Im missing a few in that format and im not sure how to find it online to make sure im ordering the right format. Do i basicly have to go by someones discription? Is their a format number? Whats the best way to find these.

For example i dont have plays live cos im looking for the full show not highlights which seems to be the main release anymore. I dont have so and shaking the tree. All of which id like to have in digipack. Especially secret world live. Not sure if long walk home or ovo have been made that way or not.

By "format", I'm assuming that you mean the digi pack. (Format usually refers to the medium, i.e. CD, LP, Cassette, SACD, etc.)

OK, just to clarify...

Which albums do you have in digi packs?

Can you give us a couple of catalogue nos. just to confirm which issues you have? (The full number on the outer spine will be it.)

Plays Live is only available as a "Highlights" version on single CD, unless you want to hunt down the original 2 CD version.

So and Shaking The Tree are available (or were, anyway) in digi packs.

Secret World Live was not available in a digi pack. Same goes for Ovo and Long Walk Home

Digi packs were only made for all the releases from PG1 to Us, including Birdy and Passion. That comes to a total of 10 titles.

BTW, I'm a little confused...

You said that you picked up the box set promo of the remasters, correct?

Aren't all of those CDs in digi packs?

The box set promo PETER GABRIEL REMASTERED COLLECTION is all digi packs. The box set itself has no markings just the embroided title that i put as all caps. The number on the spine of the discs are as follows

Pg1. 069 493 301-2
Pg2 069 493 302-2
Pg3. 069 493 279-2
Pg4 069 493 280-2
Plays live 069 493 282-2
Birdy 069 493 283-2
So 069 493 284-2
Passion 069 493 285-2
Shaking the tree 069 493 286-2
Us 069 493 287-2

Now on the spines of the individual discs i ordered before that box set

Pg1,2,birdy. Do not have numbers just the rainbow colouring that real world uses. The only title give on all 3 is just peter gabriel

On the back side of those 3 it says Copyright in 2002 and 2010
PGCDR1
PGCDR2
PGCDRBIR

PG3,4,passion have this on the spine

PGCDR3
PGCDR4
RWCDR1

Us and up have no writing again on the spine just peter gabriel with the rw rainbow logo

On the back it has

PGCDR7
PGCD11

All of the above are digi packs

The following are all in jeweled cases

Shaking the tree. PGTVDR6
Revisited. ATLANTIC label
Secret world PGCDR8
Ovo PGCDR9
The story of ovo/ millenium show with a big book RWPGO1
Long walk home 7243 8 12238 2 6
hit 07243 595237 2 9

What im tring to find out is. Why do some spines just have the rw rainbow and others have a number and how can i search to find the right ones to make a compleat set. All with no numbers all with numbers. Does this make sences? I know ill have 3 coppies but lol.

This may not be much help as I've only got the UK 2002 remasters in jewel cases spread across original 2002 release (Shaking The Tree), 2011 reissue (PG1-4, Birdy, So, Passion, Us) and 2014 reissue (Plays Live Highlights).

Assuming all artwork would be the same and only the record label legal jargon would be different then the Realworld rainbow was not used on any of these issues.

As for any subsequent CD remastering. I believe only So has been given this treatment for the 25th Anniversary editions and there used to be an article on petergabriel.com that explained the reasons for this. From memory I think it was due to Peter not being happy with the low end of the remaster compared to the original CD master from 1986.

I thought after rw was established all of his cds bared that logo? As for the promo box i dont think ill ever open it.

Actually come to think of it those cds in the box dont have that logo either. Or that version doesnt from the previous set of those i had. Hmm?

But my main question is. I buy stuff from amazon or walmart and i dont know how to look for specific versions you really cant go by pctures and in order to complete the various versions i have i dont know exactly how i could even try to find the missing cds. I can type in SO digi pack but unless they have that specific wording its hard to track down.

Alllllllrighty then,

It was a little confusing because you mentioned wanting to complete your collection of digi pack versions, but you had all the digi packs in the promo box. And not knowing exactly what you had or didn't have made it a little difficult to offer any additional info. Things are a bit clearer now...I think.

The promo box is a collection of the original remaster releases on the Geffen label from 2002. Those were technically limited edition and should be individually numbered. I think you did OK picking that up considering it would be a little difficult to find them new today.

These are 2010 reissues of the 2002 remasters on the Real World label. They are U.S. releases manufactured in Mexico. You should be able to find So and Shaking The Tree as part of this group, with catalogue nos. PGCDR5 and PGCDR6.

Shaking the tree. PGTVDR6
Revisited. ATLANTIC label
Secret world PGCDR8
Ovo PGCDR9
The story of ovo/ millenium show with a big book RWPGO1
Long walk home 7243 8 12238 2 6
hit 07243 595237 2 9

I'm not sure what "Revisited Atlantic Label" is supposed to mean, since Shaking The Tree is either on the Geffen or Real World labels. The catalogue no. does correspond to a European reissue, while the Secret World and Ovo nos. shouldn't have the "R" designation, as far as I can tell. There should be a secondary catalogue no. somewhere on the package, or at least the barcode ID will match that number, if you want to get a better idea of which version you have.

In any case, Secret World, Ovo & Long Walk Home have not been reissued.

The multi coloured spines represent Real World label releases. As already mentioned, you should be able to find another number somewhere to help you identify which version it is, but apart from the 2010 digi pack reissues of So and Shaking The Tree, I'm not sure why you would want to purchase anything else.

Ah! Now I remember... User Image

Never really paid much attention to that release, and the way you typed the info gave me the impression that it was additional to the StT info.

Anyway, it was only released that one time.

I'd have loved to have PGs remasters in a nice box like that. They would display nicely with my Genesis and Phil Collins boxes! But I was still in college when PG was originally releasing all of these and didn't have the money (or interest) to get all that at once.

I quite enjoy his remasters! I have accumulated them over time, and I still don't have the remasters of Passion (if there is one) and 16 Golden Greats (as the only song on there I don't have elsewhere is Shaking The Tree). But these remasters really breathed new life into these albums! IMO Car, Security and even US are much improved!

Unfortunately, the box set of remasters wasn't available as a retail item, that is, you couldn't have ordered it or bought it at a retail store anyway.

Both Passion and Shaking The Tree were remastered and re-released not too long ago.
