xx a 'best of' compilation i made
« Thread started on: Jan 2nd, 2016, 11:52am »

long ago i made a 3-cd peter gabriel compilation, based on the live albums tracklists, and replacing certain songs with others that weren't there and had been more successful.

i've done this silly thing with many other bands and artists, as well.

disc 1:
1. the rhythm of the heat
2. i have the touch
3. family snapshop
4. d.i.y.
5. games without frontiers
6. slow marimbas
7. san jacinto
8. solsbury hill
9. i donít remember
10. no self control
11. shock the monkey
12. here comes the flood
13. biko
14. i go swimming [live]

disc 2:
1. big time
2. steam
3. lovetown
4. shaking the tree
5. red rain
6. blood of eden
7. mercy street
8. digging in the dirt
9. sledgehammer
10. zaar
11. donít give up
12. in your eyes
13. secret world [live]

disc 3:
1. the drop
2. the tower that ate people
3. cloudless
4. more tan this
5. growing up
6. burn you up, burn you down
7. father, son
8. downside up [live]

i don't own peter's latest releases, that is 'scratch my back' and 'new blood', that's why there's nothing from those albums on the list above.

have you ever made your own peter solo work compilation?

Yes, several times over several years. I'd have to pull out my last one to post the tracklist... I remember it began with "San Jacinto" and ended with "Secret World".

Probably a lot of crossover with Kerry95's list but here's a 3hr PG playlist I put together:

Sledgehammer
Moribund The Burgermeister
On The Air
Slow Marimbas
Growing Up
I Don't Remember
I Have The Touch
Steam
White Shadow
Shaking The Tree
Red Rain
San Jacinto
Family Snapshot
Kiss That Frog
Mercy Street
Solsbury Hill
Games Without Frontiers
A Wonderful Day In A One-Way World
Modern Love
Shock The Monkey
Digging In The Dirt
Sky Blue
Waiting For The Big One
Big Time
The Rhythm Of The Heat
The Barry Williams Show
Don't Give Up
D.I.Y.
A Different Drum
Here Comes The Flood
In Your Eyes
Biko
Zaar

white shadow is one of my favourite non-hits. it strongly reminds me of genesis. and so moribund the burgermeister and humdrum do.

I love "White Shadow"... it's in my top-5 Gabriel songs.

Here's a fun fact for the younger folk: Side one of the original vinyl of PG2 (at least on my US version) ended in a continuous groove, so you could leave the needle on the spinning record and it would play that final, wavering note of "White Shadow" forever.

cool

I assume Tony and Peter were using the same keys/synth gear in 78 but White Shadow just sounds like it could be taken from And Then There Were Three.

No offense, but I don't know when I've read a comment on this forum that I disagree with more. I hear no resemblance in any way. undecided

i recently read a book about the infinity (i love maths). the case of that vinyl disc that never ends could very well have been included in that book. smiley

As I recall both sides of the Scratch LP ended on a continuous groove, didn't they? (At least in the UK). I think it was designed to end abruptly as the stylus automatically lifted but our deck didn't do that so yes we'd get the never-ending final note.

Mention of White Shadow reminds me I should have probably included it in my top 10 tracks.

Anyway, my most recent PG compilation was across 2 discs, starting with Growing Up and (I think) The Feeling Begins and ending with Intruder and San Jacinto.

Moribund The Burgermeister
Solsbury Hill
Humdrum
On The Air
White Shadow
Water Music / Here Comes The Flood (Exposure version)
No Self Control
I Don't Remember
San Jacinto
The Family And The Fishing Net
Wallflower
Lay Your Hands On Me
I Have The Touch (Plays Live)
Not One Of Us (Plays Live)
DIY (Plays Live)
Walk Through The Fire
Red Rain
In Your Eyes
We Do What We're Told
Only Us
Digging In The Dirt
Secret World
Darkness
Growing Up (single edit)
More Than This (single edit)

Although what I really want is a release compiling all the alternate versions and b-sides he's released over the years.
