September 2002!Ring any bells? That was the month that Up was released! Nearly thirteen years ago!Thirteen years since Peter released a full album of original material!Sure we had Scratch My Back, and the New Blood projects, but that's what they were!No new songs, nothing.
I know Peter has been busy over the last few years touring, but surely it's about time he had some plans in the pipeline! Does anybody know what he's got planned for the future?

@ Alfred, if you follow Peter Gabriel on his official facebook he or someone connected to him does indeed post a photo of studio sessions or writing sessions. These usually take the form of pro tools track listings.

This is an indicator to us that work on an album of original material is underway at Peter's usual pace.

Mike

In 2005 Peter met with Tony, Mike, Phil and Steve to discuss a Genesis reunion. He then told his old band mates that he was working on an album that he wanted to finish first. Now it's been ten years and he's still working on it! To me it seems like he's having a writer's block. I assume the same with Roger Waters, who released his latest album in 1992 (!!) and has been working on a new one since at least the late 90s.

It has been a long time since Up. But after Up's release there were two tours, (at least) and then the scratch my back and new blood projects and each of their corresponding tours took up several years. I'm sure he worked in the remaining work on Big Blue Ball in there somewhere as well. So, funny enough, he's actually been quite busy this last 12 years!

Although I would LOVE to finally get a straight up, brand new, full original album, I try to remember-it was 10 years between Us and Up as well. I bet it's coming, but if I had to put a guess to it, I'd say a new album could realistically be released sometime in 2016-unless we learn that he's embarked on another project/tour-and then we'll know it will likely be even later...

The wait is frustrating, as a new PG album was always an interesting prospect and as someone I admire for his innovation and creativity I find it disappointing for him to do so much revisiting of old material in the last few years. However, in other forums I've had the 'no artist owes their fans anything' argument which in fact I mainly agree with, and it's not as though he hasn't done anything new since Up.

But what's made the wait a teeny bit more frustrating is that at one point we even had a title: 'I/O'. Also, I recall a mention of a stripped-back trio project of PG piano/vox, Danny Thompson bass, and Jed Lynch drums. I didn't imagine that, did I? Was that a thing?

And yes as AnythingNow said above, the 'new album' was given as the primary reason for PG not doing the proposed Lamb reunion tour. Doh!

It's funny, I just re-read my post above (which was posted almost 2 years ago now!) with me saying I'd guess late 2016 would be the likely release timeframe. LOL here we are now, well into 2017 and we've no more news on the new album front than we did then, other than a few FB pics of his studio work every 6 months or so. It's great to know though that he's working on it-I'm sure it'll see the light of day sometime! My new prediction will be fall 2018.

I will check back on this thread in a year to see if I was right!! wink

I saw him give a talk and interview last March in London. He was asked about his next album and when it might be out. He said he'd stick his neck out and say 'September'... then added he wasn't specifying which year.
