The Watch, performing Nursery Cryme show 1972
« Thread started on: Jan 9th, 2009, 07:52am » |

Just checked gig guide for The Robin, Bilston and it lists The Watch, playing on Sunday 1st November. Only £10 in advance, £12 on door. I saw them last spring, at Lydney Town Hall and they were stunning. Their own music is excellent and they perform the very early Genesis songs with passion, skill and intensity. I can't recommend them too highly.
The Robin is my local so if anyone would like to see this show, let me know a few months before and I'll pick up tickets for you, to save fees. Can post, if you send cheque and an SAE or will meet you on the night.
Here is the advert:
Sunday 1st November From Italy
'The Watch' plays Genesis - "Nursery Cryme Show 1972" Advance Ticket Price: £10.00 (Door Price: £12.00) On Stage 8.45pm
The show Genesis performed in Europe - early 1972 - after the release of their first masterpiece Nursery Cryme. Some extras from early Foxtrot period and a couple of original songs will be included as well.
THE WATCH is a Milan based band. They compose also original music (3 albums released), inspired by artists of the 70's, primarily early Genesis.
Their way of performing Genesis material is absolutely unique due to an incredible similarity between Simone Rossetti's vocals and those of a young Peter Gabriel.
They also use only original instruments like the Hammond L122 organ or the Mellotron.
This tribute show, the only one in its kind, puts together some classic Genesis songs from the Nursery Cryme period, with some underrated and particular numbers, so much appreciated by all early Genesis fans.

Just listened to Looking for Someone - sounds brilliant!
Something missing with Twilight Alehouse though I felt.

Agreed. Looking for Someone is outstanding by these boys.
I think the Italian accent starts to affect your judgment on Twilight Alehouse and it's really difficult to get the sounds right too.............

Thanks for posting this Steve, I've heard some great reports about this Band, including your eralier postings. I saw Genesis play several times at some very intimate venues during the Nursery Cryme era.
I really must go to this gig as it will refresh some very special memories for me...............
And of course yet another forum meetup - woohoo....!!!!

Thought it was time to bump this thread, as this band are not to be missed, both for lovers of early Genesis and for their own music. This is their only UK date this year. Please PM me if you would like me to purchase advance tickets for you, to save £2 each.
Some more news on their website http://www.thewatchmusic.net/. A new album is being released early in 2010 and there will be a European tour, combining the whole of Foxtrot plus more early Genesis tunes and some of their own songs.
There are 4 UK dates:
Thurs 11th Feb - location & venue TBC Fri 12th Feb - The Ferry, Glasgow Sat 13th Feb - Rotherham, venue TBC Sun 14th Feb - The Peel, London (TBC)
It says that the "TBC"s will all be confirmed soon.
Hope to see some of you at The Robin
Steve
