Yep, I was there too. The climax to Supper's Ready was spine tingling, as was the moment Steve walked onto the stage for the encores.
Most of my memories though are of the rain, mud, and the hours spent trying to get out of the car park.
Cheers

Hi there

Doh. My mistake. Just had the thought that had Shirl been there she might have been the lady in the white stilettos. I'd love to find out who she was!

The lady in the white stilettos! It would make a good album title that (or murder mystery novel)! cheesy

a below average performance from Gabriel who was woefully under-rehearsed

I only remember the rehearsal tapes (which are soundboard) for this gig. Gabriel indeed sounds very unprepared.

Now what I was wondering, when where the plans for this gig made? When was the gig announced? Was it done during the planning of the Encore tour? Did it happen somewhere during the Encore tour?

Reason I ask is because I find it interesting that they suddenly cut out some of the newer tracks from the set in favor of playing Suppers ready.

Actually, the set consisted mostly of stuff they played in the last 2 years during concerts. Only exceptions are Musical box, Solsbury hill, fly/broadway melody. All the other songs where played on the Duke, Abacab/Encore tour.

Peter Gabriel lost a heap of money on the first WOMAD festival in 1982 and he was being chased for it and facing financial ruin.

Genesis got to hear about this whilst they were on tour in the States packing out arenas and offered to bail Peter out. Peter didn't want to just accept the money without doing something for it and the idea for the reunion concert came together. I think the announcement was made sometime in the September and it was an immensely exciting time to be a Genesis fan.

I think they just put together as much Gabriel era stuff as they could rehearse up with the limited time available. Obviously they were playing quite a lot on the 1982 tour anyway (including Supper's Ready which was essential at this concert) and they could revive tracks such as Firth of Fifth from the Abacab tour. From what I've read, the hardest thing to re-learn was the rest of the Musical Box (apart from the closing section).

Had I have known about it I'd have been there! However, I had met the love of my life in 1981 and I was in cloud cuckoo land! I'd forgotten about Genesis after they brought Abacab out!

Letting a bloke obscure your love for Genesis Les? Shocking!! grin

I am amazed that you didn't hear about this concert Les or didn't see them on the 1982 tour, especially as they were playing the whole of Supper's Ready for the first time in 5 years wink

I was young and naive, Nov! I was also ecstaticly happy in where I was and who I was with. I saw Genesis in December 1981 (just had to check my tickets in my collage! grin) and it wasn't the Genesis I wanted to see really. Hated the NEC and didn't (and still don't like) medleys, I'm afraid! sad
