I thought the set list was practically perfect, however I would have loved to have heard Fading Lights.

and (a minor gripe) for all of 'Home By The Sea' to be in the same key rather than the first part being a different one to the second

JamesJeffery,

To be honest at the concerts I didn't notice that HBTS Part II was in a different relative key. Just had a listen to the encore CD and it stands out a mile.

And I agree. A great setlist that had something for everyone. My only gripe was them finishing with a low energy song like CC rather than something a bit more up tempo. But that didn't spoil my enjoyment one bit. Still the best band on the planet.

I would've love to hear Abacab, The knife and driving the last spike. But i understand they can't please each and everyone of us and the set list was amazing. I had problems with Hold on my heart but i find the way to enjoy it anyway.

Yes, I find that key switch thing in HBTS a bit odd. I watched a full gig from the CAS tour not long ago (not a great gig, it has to be said- I don't think Ray could sing Phil's songs too well) and they did it the same on that. What I find especially odd on this tour is that Phil can still clearly sing it in the original key as he does it at the end of the track... huh

But anyway, can't wait for the DVD of the Rome show. I'll get the planned live CD taken from various gigs too...I'm a sucker for almost anything with the Genesis name on it!!!! grin

My tattoo song! grin Think I'd have wet myself if they'd played that.

Apart from the obvious Supper's Ready, I'd love to have heard Duchess and Deep in the Motherlode.

I have to say, though, that the setlist was probably as good as I've seen them do.

Whodunnit!

I'm shocked they didn't do that one. tongue

Haha!

Saw the gig in San Jose last night and it was wonderful.
I'm more of a Pete-era guy, but I was pleasantly surprised by the 80's material.

A somewhat realistic scenario that I thought about was it would have been awesome if they fit Apocalypse 9/8 into an instrumental medley somehow.

Oh, and me as well. I was almost out of my seat, waiting for Phil to sing it: eventually I sang it myself (to the intense derision of the two women to my right...)

I saw Genesis last night in Sacramento, and they were incredible, they blew me away, but I was left yearning for the songs that sparked my wild love affair with this band. The one song I realistically thought they might play (at the beginning of this tour, though I saw that the set list wasn't changing) was "One For the Vine." My husband (who really likes 70's-era Genesis but doesn't share my out'n'out obsession) thought they could have played fewer 80's-era tunes and still satisfied the "masses," but I don't know... he was holding out for "The Knife" and "The Musical Box." I love those songs, but I can see why they don't play them anymore. Well, sort of. OK, not really. But I'm willing to let it go, I guess...

I loved seeing Genesis, but I know that in America, they aren't known for what I love them for...but that's OK. I know what I know. smiley

It would also be gorgeous if they had played "Burning Rope." OK, that's me being egregious...
