I should note that all 5 of the Tony vocals on CHORD are, in fact, from THE FUGITIVE.

I did try working out which tracks were from each album but I obviously didn't do it properly. Now that I look at it again it's quite clear.

I have to ask, what is the point of these? How are they different from the 2008 reissues except for the vinyl edition?
huh

I can understand The Fugitive but really, ACF..again??

Is it the same 5.1 surround mix of ACF as before i.e. by Nick Davis? Or has somebody else remixed the remix?

Cheers,

Yea, I guess I'm gonna save my money for the 2024 reissue.

It looks like this new release of ACF has a hi Rez stereo version, whereas the first re-release only had 5.1, no stereo. I was always disappointed with that.

And yes, I am enough of a sucker that I ordered the new one tongue

So looks like the 12" versions of this is love charm and the 7" edit of wheels keep turning are being left behind. Guess we'll never see em on cd at this point sad.

Received an email today from Burning Shed telling me that my 'Fugitive' CD/DVD is on its way to Australia. Yeah!!!

I didn't bother with ACF, already have the 2009 version.

Hi,
Thanks to Amazon delivery, I've just listened to The Fugitive 5.1 mix. It will take me some time to get used to the new mixes, as altering the mix of an album that I've listened to so many times is like rewriting a classic book that you've read over and over again. It was similar to listening to the Nick's 5.1 mix of The Lamb.

I think 'And The Wheels Keep Turning' has had an extra echo effect added to Tony's vocal. On 'By You', the keyboard is way up in the mix and the drums are much quieter (the stereo version is similar). That's not to say that Nick and Tony haven't done a good job on the mix and it was enjoyable. Also the video of This Is Love seemed to be better quality than previous versions to my eyes. However, I won't be parting with my original 1989 CD unlike the original 'A Curious Feeling' CD which has gone the journey as the new mix was such an improvement!

Bye,
AC

I am listening to the album right now. My first impression : it is a shame that Tony chose not to sing his songs after that. He's not Bono or Bowie, but he's got a good voice and it's carrying a lot of emotions.

After receiving the CD/DVD yesterday, I've listened to the 5.1 mix in particular a few times. I have to say that at this stage I'm not a fan of the sonic changes that seem to be particularly evident on the surround version. In the effort to make things 'clearer' I suspect, the hi-mid and high frequencies have been boosted, making the cymbals more dominant in some tracks. This same boost is really evident on 'Duke' in 2007 for me, and I cannot listen to that mix unfortunately. This also means that drums and guitars swamp the keys in some sections, such as 'Charm' after the drums enter. This is a shame IMHO, as I buy these albums to hear Tony's playing, not a session drummer. As far as the surround mix goes, it's fairly solid with some nice placement here and there.
Sad to say but listening to this and the PC remasters has me disappointed in Nick's approach in mixing/mastering these albums. I like what he's done in the past as a producer/engineer but when I listen to what Steven Wilson has done with the XTC albums in particular, I think these releases are sonically a lost opportunity.

Received both the CD/DVD and vinyl remaster of The Fugitive as well of the reissue of ACF as well today.

I really love the remaster of The Fugitive. It sounds more punchy and tight than the original version. "Charm" got a new mix that is really interesting. I guess its exactly how Tony wanted it to be in the first place wink
Im very happy about it all. Sounds brilliant!
