I bought this album when it came out, played it a few times, but has been gathering dust ever since. Does anyone honestly like this album??

I've read comments from people who absolutely love Seven - I'm sure I've seen a couple claiming that it's his best album.
I've often wondered if their praise would be as resounding if the music was by no-namer Joe Shmo instead of Tony Banks.
As for me, I'm in the same boat as you Mal. I bought it when it came out. I've played it probably seven or eight times. I think there's a few nice bits or pleasant moments on it but, overall, it's just not my cup of tea.

I think Seven is lovely, but is more of something I'd play as background music for studying to, or when guests come to the house for dinner or something.
If you like classical music, then it's totally up your alley. I find the album takes me back to the days when I was in concert band. It's a nice listen. I don't listen to it as much as I do ACF and the rest of Banks' albums, but I still love it nonetheless.

I really like it a lot. Some tracks more than others obviously, loved Spirit of Gravity, but probably favourite is Spring Tide. Lovely track coinciding with a very strange time I was going through. Still brings tears to the eyes. W...W...Waaaaaaaagh!!!!

Well Mal, this IS one of my favourite albums. I suppose I always had some leaning towards classical music - which is why I picked up on Genesis in the first place. From that Genesis music, I tend to rank Tony's material as my preference.
As with the early albums, it quite often takes more than a "few" listens until the music permeates one's soul. I like nothing more than slumping into the conservatory, opening a nice bottle of (strong) rose and drifting away to "Seven".
In fact, I'd do that RIGHT NOW (maybe slightly early for the rose) but the sun has been missing up here for 5 weeks now.

I think it's unbelievable he hasn't become a household name for soundtracks - let alone as a rock artist - in his own right.
"The Gateway" would be perfect.
Well when I finally get incredibly famous (don't know what for or when yet) then it's definitely going into the soundtrack for the film of my life's story. Don't think 10 minutes of footage on BBC Scotland for reaching the semi final of the Scottish Bowling Singles in 1993 is going to stretch to a film somehow
Incidentally, I never managed to get hold of a copy of "The Wicked Lady" soundtrack. I loved that. Mal? Any ideas?

The first time I heard Seven, I thought the album was brilliant and my opinion hasn't changed one bit. My favorites are "The Ram" and "The Spirit Of Gravity" but the whole thing's wonderful.

I really like it, but then I like classical. I'll admit to being biased, in any event.

Would it have been more popular if it had been by Myleene Klass (ex-Hear'say, Classic FM presenter)?
GMTV are always running the ad for Klass's CD of piano pieces in the breaks and I just think - adequate, not outstanding.
Banks's 'Seven' is okay, but Anthony Phillips is better in that field of arranging for orchestra.

Playing it at the moment. Some good pieces of music although I normally play it as background music while I am doing something else
