Well that is something that I find very interesting. You made me curious how Genesis would sound with Alan Holdsworth in the band.

I liked his work with UK a lot but he also did an album with Level42. In fact I believe that Alan played with Daryl in JLP's band.

That first 78 tour with Daryl and Chester sounds very, very fusiony. I love it, and Daryl really put a unique stamp on the songs and played with a lot of versatility.

Would have been nice to have Daryl on the records, but I doubt he would have had a whole lot of input actually. He probably would have done much the same kind of thing he did on Phil's solo stuff.

It seems like more than anyone Daryl seemed to lose influence on the live band as time went on. He barely even played guitar on the 86 and 92 tours (although his rendition of Quiet Earth did kick lots of butt on the 86/87 tour). He did gain some influence for the 07 tour since he was back on guitar for the old stuff and I'd say it was some of his best performing since the Mama tour.

Hi there

Daryl is an excellent guitarist and a really nice guy if my enciunters with him are anything to go by. Sadly though, his solo stuff in the main leaves me cold which is a shame.

Totally different player to Steve.

I love them both for different reasons and love BOTH their takes on FOF.

Having said that Daryl's versions of The Fountain Of Salmacus and IKWIL from Knebworth 78 and ITQE from 87 are far superior to Steve's in my opnion.

Having said that....No one can touch Steve for Supper's Ready and 11th Earl.

Red wine or Guinesshuh

I love em both

Best wishes

John

As far as the Daryl vs Steve debate goes, I'm staying out of that one as each of them are great in their own way. Since this thread is about Daryl, I will say that I had the chance to go see him last weekend but couldn't because my high school reunion was the same night. However, thanks to Simon's awesome site (The Genesis Movement) I was able to obtain a recording of the show and it's a great listen! If you have a chance, go check it out! Here's the setlist (it's a combination Genesis & solo):

DARYL STUERMER

Even though it was an instrumental version, it still sounded great and had a little jazz thrown in to give it more of a kick! I always thought Just A Job To Do was the most underrated song on the Mama album. It stands up well today...

When there were the "survivor" polls for the s/t album, Just A Job To Do was voted out before, i.e. was deemed to be worse than, Who Dunnit? shocked shocked shocked

huh huh

"Just a Job To Do" and "Who Dunnit?" are on different albums, and so there was no direct competition between them in the Survivor polls.........
