Rehearsal footage of El Nino:

Pretty good! Reminiscent of "Please Don't Touch" at times, which I'm sure I can find in my heart to forgive wink

There's some nice musical moments on a few of the songs like Martian Sea, Inca Terra and Anything But Love, IMO they would have been great songs to play live on this tour. Think Anything But Love is my favourite though! cheesy

some time to listen to the album properly now and I have to say it's quite difficult to pick out highlights - the whole thing flows incredibly well- nicely bookended by BTS and WTE thematically with The Gift's sweet melancholy serving as a fitting end to an amazing musical journey.

I'd say Steve's vocals are stronger and stronger on each studio outing - some lovely use of vibrato on 'The Other Side of The Wall', which is a beautiful lyric that doesn't need the multi-layered approach (so effective on other tracks) but relies on evocative imagery and a heartfelt delivery.

It's interesting to hear how the experiences Steve describes in his blog/travelogue end up taking musical form.

And so the purple patch continues... Looking forward to the tour!

Listen to the album a few times now and agree it does flow very well, after the, for me, big disappointment of Wolflight, this seems like a return to form.
I also agree that Steve's vocals are excellent on this. He does seem to improve with age, like me grin

Ordered my copy, but chose low price over quick delivery.

The Wikipedia article on the album gives information on the inevitable Japan-only bonus tracks; there are two, one of which is a new recording of "After the Ordeal." Oh, well. I've given up on keeping up with Steve's bonus tracks.

The other is presumably a studio version of the given title, Jazz on a Summer's night, which appeared live on Hungarian horizons.

I listened to the whole album in one go last night and rather enjoyed it.

I think Steve's vocals are very strong on this album. Some tracks seemed to have a strong folk/Celtic influence and at times reminded me of Clannad.

Overall a strong album. One that I will listen to again and again until the songs are more familiar and remembered.

I would like to see Steve collaborate with Peter Gabriel and perhaps Ant too on a longer track in the future.

I think their recent output could work well with Steve's current song-writing style.

If they wanted to rope Phil or Chester in to do a bit of drums I could cope with that...

We must be opposites. I loved Wolflight but this one was underwhelming. It will probably grow on me though.

Not sure yet - seems at 3 plays there are lots of good vocal parts/songs and ideas but the seemingly obligatory descent into less than melodic guitar & other noise 'rambles' on quite so many tracks doesn't work too well for me. Too many of the famous Steve 'very fast' runs as well? Maybe Steve needs to cut these 'solos' down in length/frequency next time as it must be hard to come up with new great things in the solos after so many years. I've always been very picky with him though - to me a lot of his stuff is really brilliant but much is frankly (again for me) unlistenable. I cut off occasional tracks part way/at their end on my iPod and I think this will be the case for several here. Time will tell though. After all I didn't like Supper's Ready in 1973 for a long time and came to think it's the greatest thing in rock/prog music!!

Really delighted Mr Hackett is having his 'golden period' - well deserved and his live shows are perfection, especially the Liverpool DVD which is almost too great to believe (except I saw that tour). One of the best live DVD's ever by anybody I think.

I'm still waiting for my copy & have been interested in your thoughts.

Does Steve sing all the songs?
