One thing that blew me away was that Glen Campbell started out his career with The Wrecking Crew. He was one of them. He's on tons of records, including The Monkees.

Today I found out that the Four Tops were not the first band to record Walk Away, Renee. It was originally by a band called Left Banke. I've heard the original, and I actually prefer it to now to the Four Tops version. Perhaps The Wrecking Crew contributed to either or both of these versions?

Correct. The same writer/band member also wrote another song about Renee, called "Pretty Ballerina" which has been recorded by scores of people, inc. Alice Cooper, though the version I have is the title track of a Peter Kingsbery album.

The 4 tops also had a hit with a song called "A Simple Game" currently played a lot on Radio 2 but by Billy Ocean. It's his current single, but the original was by The Moody Blues, it was written by Mike Pinder, their keyboard player, and released as b-side to "Ride My See Saw" in 1968. He won an Ivor Novello for it. The Moodies approved of the 4 tops covering it, so much so, they lent them their producer, Tony Clarke!

Was not aware of the Sweet, they were well known to playing well in concerts!!!... I had a few of their DVD documentaries and seemed shocked to hear this!!!.. shocked

Similar situation to the one described with the Wrecking Crew, they were a good enough band, but the record company just wanted the job done ASAP. See the bands entry at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sweet particularly the new line up, first album and initial success/rise to fame sections.

I remember the news coming out, as I was a big fan at the time!
