A one hit wonder in the UK, maybe they were more successful elsewhere, but a good hit it was: Howzat by Sherbet!

All of mine have already been listed:

Split Enz/Crowded House
Midnight Oil
ACDC
The Bee Gees
INXS - primarily the single What You Need and the album Kick.

I like the various singles by Men at Work back in the 80s.

And I really like Lorde's debut album. I'll have to see if she can sustain things.

As the former Sherbet freak I can tell you that Howzat obviously worked in the UK but they made the fatal mistake of also thinking it would break them in the US, where cricket is unknown. They never recovered from this & never made it in the US. There was talk of them touring in support of the Bee Gees or Olivia Newton-John. They didn't want to put in the hard yards of touring; they thought all they had to do was appear on a couple of TV shows & the record would sell.

The singer Daryl Braithwaite had a career revival in the 90s with songs like One Summer (Sherbet were notorious for doing lots of 'summer' songs) & The Horses but he was sadly eclipsed by John Farnham, who had a massive hit with You're The Voice & about whom I can't give a printable opinion.

Another great albeit short lived band from the eighties. 1927 only really had one record titled Ish. But it spawned three or four hit singles like this one....

I borrowed John Farnham's album once, the hit was the only good track on it! wink

I had this album on cassette once (okay, I do know more artists from down under, than I thought), and quite liked it.

Natalia Imbruglia, the singer that Schrottrocker mentioned, also had a hit up here a couple of years ago, called Torn. Also not bad at all.

Torn was a hit here too, but it was more than a couple of years ago, more like 12. Before she was in Johnny English. It's a cover version by the way. Scandinavian girl who sang it originally I think.

Being female when I first started listening to Australian music I was a teenager & I had 'teenage idol' bands. I was a massive Sherbet fan. Their music was a lot better than they were given credit for, and the keyboardist, Garth Porter, was a disciple of Keith Emerson.

Lee Kernaghan on the Today show this morning gave a wonderful tribute to Garth who has co written several songs with him including Boy From The Bush which was last night awarded with best song at the songwriters awards..

also, 2 singles Kylie did while with De-Construction, "Confide in me" and "Put yourself in my place". 2 best songs she ever did!

Good to see The Church get a mention, one of my all time favourite bands, 36 years and still going strong. Also still around since the 80s The Hoodoo Gurus and Died Pretty. Sadly defunct but great bands all the same - The Go-Betweens, The Triffids, Black Eyed Susans. Going back to the 60s The Easybeats, featuring George Young, brother of Malcolm and Angus.

And the incomparable Little Stevie Wright as singer. Awesome voice, may he RIP...
