I picked the bands that seemed to be the most successful during the era. I left Genesis out because they would probably get most (if not all) of the votes. If your favorite isn't an option, just state it in the comments.

I voted for Yes.

Chose ELP in that list but only their first 5 or 6 albums... This band went down hill..

Would of preferred Camel though as often in music they are referenced to many bands making music and should be classed as legends.

Most reviews often compare Camel/ Genesis and Pink Floyd in a style of any new material released..

Have to go with ELP. They were my first prog gig in 1974. Blew me away. Trilogy and Tarkus among their best.

Apart from Genesis, Camel is easily the best IMHO. Sure, bands like ELP, Gentle Giant, Yes and King Crimson all made several absolutely magnificent tracks, but Camel stands above them to me, because they managed to do what Genesis did and carefully transition from an awesome classic prog rock band into a wonderful AOR band. cool

Their first four albums are all prog rock gold (TSG AND MM in particular are prog rock diamonds) but even after that era, they never stopped making really great music, right up to their final album in 2002. Like Genesis, they made something for every mood and have rarely failed to impress and delight me. smiley

40 years ago, Rush triggered my first serious interest in music.
That band has been a mainstay in my life ever since.

Camel was all but unknown here in the states. Hawkwind was somewhat on the map here. The rest on the list were international legends.

I guess that I should have put Camel as an option instead of Hawkwind.

I agree with your comments entirely NSOV smiley

Would of easily put Camel as my No1 choice, but looking at the list of classics these were recognized world over compared to Camel.. It has always been a sore point knowing that such a great band never got the airplay compared to those listed above. huh When I talk to strangers regarding music most people have heard of Camel but never listened to their music?

I saw the Moody Blues twice so it has to be them followed by Pink Floyd, ELP & Rush (the last two are my husband's favourites). I have seen Jethro Tull once (in recent years admittedly).
