I got some mixed feelings about getting this album or not. I have Testimony, Question Mark and One and stopped buying more, because all these album really sound the same more or less. For me, Neal Morse is some sort of one-song-artist. If you`d play me one of the songs of the three albums mentioned above, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you, from which album it is. It all sounds pretty good, yes, but I really don`t feel, I need more of this. But then everybody seems to be quite overwhelmed by the new release.

So, maybe....

Keep listening! This album has been getting great reviews by everyone and it seems to be on track for prog album of the year. The more listens you have the more it makes sense with all the melody and mood changes. It's sure to be a masterpiece! cool

I agree it does need more listens, but certain tracks constantly change tempo, making me very confused what I'm listening to.

Don't get me wrong this is a great album indeed and reminds me a lot like Transatlantic. But to say this is the best album ever, I don't agree.. Played this 3 times so far with 23 tracks thats a long time. So far can only rate this 7/10..

I get what you mean about Neal's earlier albums. His later stuff with his new band are much better. This new album is the best thing he has done besides The Whirlwind.

Uh, I never said this was the best album ever. I did say this is one of the best albums of 2016, IMO. I just don't get all the hype about Marillion and The Flower Kings. The Neal Morse Band is much more what I look for in the sound of a prog band.

I have been a big fan of Morse over the years but wont be buying any more of his albums I'm afraid. To my ears he just keeps repeating himself.

Sorry to hear that. I have listened to it many times and can't get enough of it. Neal is Neal. This album is about as prog as it gets. Everyone in the band sings great - even Mike P.

Having seen this lineup in concert a couple of times helps too, I suppose; knowing what they're capable of musically.

Neal has a new Christian album out which is quite good apparently, Ive only heard a few tracks via Youtube. Totally different from his main album. Prog/Archives reviewers rated this pretty good.

This couldn't be further from the truth. He is in the second album with his new lineup and they have just written what lots of people are saying is his best work to date. IMO I would put Similitude up there with The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and The Wall.

For me personally, "The Whirlwind" is absolutely THE WORST (!) album Transatlantic ever released. shocked

You are the first person I have heard that from since the album was released. I guess you are in the minority there. smiley

I have just raised my score to 8/10... I still don't agree this is best of the 2016 releases this year.. We still have a couple of weeks to go though!... smiley
