Tried Space Revolver today.
What a total mish-mash of styles, none linking together, no melodies to speak of. Totally forgettable music undecided

Sorry guys! I have tried but the appeal of this band to so many just baffles me. I surrender and give up.
Back to PT for me wink

You'll come back to this album in a few months and realise what you've been missing.

Melody, harmony and composition are the most important elements in music to me and this album has it in absolute spades.

TFK are a far more melodic (and uplifting) band than Porcupine Tree (and I am a big PT fan).

How many times have you played Space Revolver?

Please don't call TFK "totally forgettable music". Sorry, but I'm rather passionate about them.

You're obviously a Camel fan and so am I. I grew up with them. Andy Latimer is one of my top 3 all time guitarists along with Steve Hackett and Roine Stolt from The Flower Kings. You would find lots to enjoy from Roine's playing if you would only let yourself.

Sorry to go on.

Mal I understand why you are not a fan of them, their output is prolific and I do love most of it.
There are some tracks which even I cannot get on with, but sometimes if you play a track of theirs a few times ,it clicks. smiley
Take the band Yes I like some of their stuff but not everything smiley

Mal,

I went a bit over the top there.

Blame it on the red wine wink

You are obviously missing something though and I'm not sure what it is coz we like exactly the same sort of stuff.

wink

I think I'd blame it on full on flowermania, Nov! Wine has nothing to do with it. LOL

Steve Ll

PT are a fab band too! And what did you think of the pack, Gooner265?

As most people on here know, Space Revolver is my least fave FK album. Nevertheless, it has plenty of melody in there, and some fantastic songs. Probably the real reason its my least favourite, comparatively, is because it's a little 'heavy' in parts on songs such as Monster Within and Underdog.
However, it's still a great album.
Sorry you can't take to the band, but if they're not for you, well, that's fair enough. At least you've given them a chance.

TFK play music that takes a serious effort to appreciate probably because of the complexity. I, too thought they were overrated but have recently changed my mind. smiley

btw, this was not helped by the fact I have tonnes of music to listen to especially in the neo progressive vein which is my favourite genre. smiley This music generally thrives on melody wink eg Sylvan, Arena, Pendragon.....the possibilities are seemingly endless, thank goodness smiley

grin That's great to hear Col! I seem to remember talking about this stuff with you at Rosies gig back in April, about the length of their albums being a good thing or not. In amongst the Magners of course! rolleyes

Thanks Nikki. I really appreciate you going to this much effort to come and see The Phantoms. All I can say is that if all goes to plan, I promise you a great gig wink

Can you please try and rally round some some of the other guys to join you? Gooner is definitely coming and there are others who have expressed an interest in the past.

The fact that he's the most gorgeous bloke on the planet has nothing whatsoever to do with it! grin

No probs, i'm really looking forward to it! grin
It just gets a bit difficult if theres loads of weekends off needed one after the other, for gigs, parties, whatever.
