I might buy an album from this group soon. I'll start with BITWOA and work my way up. It'll be costly but I think I'm ready to tackle this band, as I'm now very able to listen to albums that run for 70 minutes or over. smiley

I don't think you'll be disappointed, but then again, I'm biased! grin

I'm certain to enjoy them now. smiley

But then there's all those other prog groups you guys love so much as well. Spock's Beard, Unifaun, Anglagard, Kaipa, Opeth, Galahad, Echolyn, Dream Theater, Trilogy of Error, Riverside, Beardfish, Transatlantic, Moon Safari... bloody hell, there's just too many of 'em! grin

That's the beauty and the variety of Prog! I don't like all bands, for instance, not a lover of Echolyn or Dream Theater, but I'll give anything a listen. You have to have an open mind with this type of music. It pays dividends. wink

That's great to hear NSOV - just don't force it ok? You are not "certain" to like TFK now so don't put yourself under any pressure to. I think that you like things to be black or white but with music, there are massive grey areas wink

That album is a perfect one to start with - it's got a great mix of epics, instrumentals and poppier stuff. I love it smiley

With a 75 minute album, you might love, say, 50 minutes of it, take or leave 20 minutes, and hate 5 minutes of it. Believe it or not, this is how I feel about certain Flower Kings albums. However, bare in mind that the 50 minutes you love is the same amount, or more, of music on all the classic LPs from the 60s, 70s and 80s. What I am saying is, don't let the 5 minutes you (might) hate put you off the whole album wink

Is that a Spock's Beard tribute band?

Yep, totally agree Nov, though in my case, there isn't any Flower Kings tracks I actually dislike, I have my favourites of course, and those I like less, but they're all at least listenable, to my ears. And Tomas' beard is all his own work, though it could be a tribute to someone we don't know about! It's defo grown on me (and a lot quicker than it grew on him!) wink

Last Saturday, I was alone at home and watched some concerts on youtube. One was the 2006 show of the Flower Kings in Tilburg, which really touched my heart. I never was too keen on Paradox Hotel, although I bought it the day of its release. I listened to it again three times since then, and I must confess, that I really never appreciated how wonderful this album is.

I don't think anyone will FULLY appreciate how wonderful The Flower Kings are in general until a few decades time to be honest wink

I've said this in the past too. In thirty years maybe people will look back and say 'Wow, that was some band! Why weren't they better known and better rated?' wink

I like TFK, fave albums for me are Space Revolver, The Rainmaker & Unfold The Future. However I find a lot of their albums are overlong and contain too many filler/dodgy tracks and I don't like their last album at all. So, 10 years ago I was mad about them but now not so much.
