Just started back on the TFK journey again. Listened to Back In The World Of Adventures before. It's still, imo, one of the best, most accomplished, debut albums of all time. Great stuff indeed! cool

Yep.

Listened to Paradox Hotel yesterday. It's been on the bottom of my list for awhile now. I'm learning to appreciate it more. Some very good songs.

You've inspired me to put on BITWOA, Carl smiley

I agree with you, by the way wink

Today: Retropolis

Funny how these albums all sound even better after a long lay off. Of course, they still sound phenomenal even when you play them to death! wink

Yes, you guessed it, I've just finished playing:
Stardust We Are.

Fantastic double album indeed. TFK at their most melodic, self-indulgent, interesting best! The title track stands up as equal to any of the great epics from the 'classic 70s' era, imo. Great stuff indeed! cool

Had to have my computer tidied up recently, helped by my nephew who is a computer whizz, as I seemed to have picked up some sort of virus that slowed it right down and had endless pop ups popping up everywhere! Anyway, the short of it is, I had to reinstall itunes and therefore I'm having to put all my favourite albums back on it - time consuming and a real pain! However, it does give me the excuse to listen to some more TFK! (I'm putting their albums back on as I type) Currently listening to Meet The Flower Kings. Don't play this one so much as I've got the dvd to watch, but it's a fantastic album aurally, even if I can't see them! cool

I most heartily agree young man wink

Are you aware that, sadly, CoT has decided to leave the forum due to an issue in another thread with a few members sad

So, it looks like it's down to you and me to make sure that this thread maintains a presence on the forum.

By the way, are you into Big Big Train?

Hi Nov, yep, I'm aware of Dave leaving the forum, got an email off him. He'll be missed. Thought I'd sent you a couple of Big Big Train albums, didn't I? Anyway, yes, I rate them highly. I know you're going to see them, lucky beggar. Hope you enjoy it. I'm hoping for an operation before Xmas for hip replacement, maybe two at once, then we'll see how mobile I become. Hope TFK do another double album at some point, maybe in a year or two. And of course, another live dvd. wink

So it's nearly a year since Desolation Rose was released, and what is the general feeling about this record? For myself it's an o.k. release, but doesn't really set the world on fire!It certainly is as good as their previous two efforts (Banks of Eden/Sum of No Evil),is far from being classic Kings! I have no idea what the plans are for TFK in the future, but let's hope they can get back to producing some classic music in the vein of UTF,FP,etc.

I thoroughly enjoyed Desolation Rose, still do, hard to say if I prefer it to the previous two releases or not though. All are good but not UTF and FP as you say. They remain, for me, their two magnum opuses. I don't try to compare albums when it comes to TFK, I just take each release on it's own merit. I think it's very hard to recapture something that only comes along once or twice in a career. If they set out purposefully to do something similar to FP or UTF, critics, and some fans, would say they've run out of ideas and are recycling old ones. If, on the other hand, they try to do something quite different, which, to my mind, is what they did with Desolation Rose, critics, and some fans, will say 'this isn't the TFK we know and love!' This applies to any band that has a large output and devoted following. It's very much a balancing act between trying something different and yet retaining a certain sound, or style. I think TFK manage it very well. You can always tell it's them, but they seldom repeat themselves. All imo of course. I look forward to their next release, though I think that might be a while off yet. smiley

Just saw this. Thanks, Nov and Carl. I stayed away for a few weeks, but couldn't resist coming back. This site is like an old friend. Probably 'cause it's where we come to talk with old (and new) friends.

Anyway, I do enjoy Desolation Rose. I hear something different every time I spin the discs, but that's how TFK albums roll - always some little nugget buried deep in there that you didn't hear before. Great stuff!

Hard to stay away for long isn't it Dave? It's like a long lost lover, you come back to her time and time again because of that intangible 'something' that pleases you like nothing else. Could be her scent, the look in her eyes, the smile on her lips, the welcome in her arms................................

Got to go now, the men from the funny farm have arrived to give me my medication and take me 'home'. rolleyes grin

Seems this thread is only haunted now by the ghosts of long deceased fans and followers of the eternally youthful and ever evolving Gods of Sweden (and maybe Germany). As I wander through it, picking through the bones of the fallen, I allow a tear to drop on the arid, parched ground in sad remembrance of happier and more fullfilling times. I bow my head at the memory of my once prolific and ever present brethren and, in their absence, can only ask the empty skies one question - WHEN'S THE NEXT ALBUM DUE? grin

There's been so much new stuff released by other bands lately that it's been hard to jump into a TFK album for quite awhile now.

Roine and Jonas have been involved in other bands' releases too over the last few months. Jonas is also a record producer, so I'm sure he's been busy.

I too can't wait to see what's next for these guys.

I might buy an album from this group soon. I'll start with BITWOA and work my way up. It'll be costly but I think I'm ready to tackle this band, as I'm now very able to listen to albums that run for 70 minutes or over. smiley
