Yep, Elvis wins. smiley Of course I only posted here in response to a post in the "Elvis Costello on TV" heads up thread. If you're not keen on Elvis, why bother posting there? huh I'll leave you lot alone now. wink

I can't see any posts in that thread that mention TFK. Maybe the post was removed.

There weren't any. But there were a couple of posts from big fans of TFK saying they weren't keen on Elvis.

They are even bigger fans of Genesis and Pink Floyd Nigel. Think on wink

You could just as well have posted in one of the Genesis threads saying Elvis was better.......

On my third listen now of Desolation Rose. The second or 'bonus' disc is fantastic, grabbed me straightaway. The first or 'main' disc is getting better with each listen too. Takes a bit more listening to of course, like most of their stuff, whereas the instrumentals on disc 2 appeal straight away. Very impressed though. What amazes me is that this band have produced this album in sort of record time - the songs weren't really fully formed when they went in the studio and yet they didn't seem to be there very long before the album was finished, according to Hasse's posts on Facebook. Yet the finished product is deep, layered and complex. Of course, they're all experienced at producing this sort of thing, nevertheless, I'm still extremely impressed with the whole thing! cool

Thanks for your kind words.

It plopped on my doormat this morning and I am literally on my first listen right now wink

Obviously I am loving the sound of what I am hearing but as usual it's going to take a few listens to digest and get used to it to decide just how good it is.

It is certainly sounding fantastic wink

smiley

Definitely! Like many great bands, sometimes their music takes a little while before all of it sinks in. smiley

On my first listen through, The Resurrected Judas is the song that jumped out at me right away. That one is possibly in my TFK Top 10 list now.

After a couple weeks with this disc, it has continued to get better and better. Tower ONE, while I struggled with it at first, now makes sense and feels like a great cohesive mini-epic. And it has a couple of near-transcendent moments, musically.

Still too early to tell, but I think they may have topped Banks of Eden with this one.

Hope you're still enjoying it Nov. Any thoughts on particular tracks yet? smiley

Haven't made it to the bonus disc yet -- I've been wanting to save that for as long as possible, I guess. laugh

You're right about how the album seemed to come together really fast. It sounded like a lot of it was written on the fly, with the whole band in the studio together, but it still sounds really polished and well put together. Must be the years of experience those guys have. grin

I was certainly not expecting another TFK disc less than a year and a half after BoE, but it's a pleasant surprise for sure. smiley

Amazing drumming by Felix (and filmed by Mike Portnoy) whilst TFK play 'The Truth Will Set You Free' smiley

As with most TFK double albums, there is enough amazing material to put together a stupendous single album, and since I'm into the more 'spacey' progressive music, there are a couple songs I wish they'd have done without the vocals, but overall this is a fantastic TFK release. Yes, it could very well fit into my top 5 TFK albums.
