Still in full TFK mode. Over the weekend I was playing Tour Kaputt to death.
Now, I've swapped that album for the first two TFK albums: Retropolis and Back In The World Of Adventures

Funny how, even now, after all this time, you can still suddenly hear a little 'something' that you never noticed before. Although TFK always remind me more of Yes than Genesis, just imagine how Genesis would/could have sounded if Steve had been given as much room for his guitar playing as Roine has.
Fantastic stuff! cool

+1 good stuff mate

Haven't listened to this album in ages. It has to be one of the most impressive prog albums I've ever heard. Roine Stolt is a genius! cool shocked

What amazing artwork! What stunning posters they'd make. I especially love the first one but they're all first class. Thanks for sharing Dave.

It is an extraordinary album isn't it?

I remember when it came out - it was almost too much to take. I just used to listen to The Truth Will Set you Free to start with - totally blew me away.

Even now, there is some stuff on there that I need to get more used to. There is just so much breadth of vision and compositional skill on this album.

He is indeed a genius and the musicianship of the whole band is incredible.

I saw them twice on this tour and heard them play all of Truth, all of Devil's Playground and also Humanizzimo at one of the gigs - amazing!

Yes indeed.

Beautiful stuff and as representative of TFK as the Roger Dean artwork is for Yes in my opinion wink

Yes, you're right. Everyone in the band is a fantastic musician in their own right. Jonas' bass playing on this album is, at times, outside the realms of belief. He's that good. Of course, I've posted before that I think Zoltan has been the band's best drummer yet; second being the stand-in a couple tours ago - Pat Mastelotto - on the Tour Kaputt DVD. Amazing! Tomas can blow the socks off most of today's prog keyboardists. All around, this band is HOT! I'd like to see them bring back Hasse Bruniusson as an added percussionist on their next album.

Well, after thoroughly enjoying Paradox Hotel for a couple of weeks, I've been having a break from music in general. Soon, however, it will be time to play:

Unfold The Future

Got to say, I'm absolutely dreading it.....

I'd forgotten just how good songs like Monkey Business are. I suppose UTF is best known for its three epics, The Truth Will Set You Free, Silent Inferno and Devil's Playground, but there's so much other top notch material on there it can overwhelm one... wink

Monkey Business is great! One of my favorites. And it doesn't really sound like anything else they've ever done, in my opinion.

That's very true. I know some people accuse TFK of 'repeating' themselves, but you could probably name half a dozen songs right off that bear little resemblance to each other, eg: Monkey Business, Stupid Girl, Magic Pie, Bavarian Skies, Rollin' The Dice and Compassion. None of them sound alike at all, imo, all very varied and none of them with what might be described as the 'classic' TFK sound.

Just got to mention Genie In A Bottle and Fast Lane, two more terrific songs on UTF. An embarrassment of riches really. cool

Indeed.

One of the criticisms leveled at TFK is that they "always sound the same" rolleyes

However, that one album has got more variety on it than most bands have in their whole careers!!

Prog, jazz, ambient, avant garde, choral, hard rock, space rock, orchestral, pop, ballads, etc, etc, etc.......
