Thoroughly enjoying Banks of Eden (1 CD version) from the start to the end. Not sure if I have said that of any other TFK release.

Numbers is a thing of beauty and the shorter tracks are all wonderful.

Best album I've heard by anyone in ages I think cool

In my opinion, he is right up there with Hackett, Howe, Gilmour, Latimer and Fripp.

He can actually play like all those guys (and all the blues guys - Clapton, Page, Hendrix, etc) but has his own distinct style as well.

Let's not forget his huge Frank Zappa influence, which is one of the joys I get from Roine's playing cool

I just wish this band had been around between '70 - '75. I honestly believe they would have blown all the opposition away. I doubt they will ever get the respect and acknowledgement they truly deserve, simply because they weren't there during the first prog explosion. Any sort of mainstream article connected in any way to prog mentions the old '70s prog giants and after that? Nothing really, except maybe the odd reference to Marillion and Radiohead.
Such a shame these people either refuse to listen to, or have no knowledge of, today's prog giants.
Good job the likes of us are around to keep the flag flying! wink

I think that they are at last getting a bit more of the attention they deserve. Not quite to the point where they can sell out big theater tours but approaching it. I think the 5 year lay-off has done them the world of good and in the meantime their reputation has grown on the internet and with Roine's part in the amazing Whirlwind album and tour.

It looks like the are going to be touring BoE extensively and they all look energised. Look at these clips of them playing at a prog festival in Germany last weekend:

I thought about including Frank Zappa in my list but I literally don't know anything by him so couldn't honestly say if I thought he was "up there" with him as well wink

Zappa performing The Allman Bros' "Whipping Post." Great soloing from about 2 minutes on.

Hmmm... Having watched a few clips looks like a bit of an "acquired taste" - can't see me getting it!

Zappa is definitely an acquired taste, but his talent as a guitarist is undeniable. His name comes up constantly in interviews by many of today's best guitarists. I grew up on his stuff in the 70s.

So, I've been listening to the new album loads over the past week or two and the track that delights me the most at the moment is:

For Those About To Drown wink

I just love this track as it's got everything I love about music in there: great melodies, superb musicianship, beautifully composed, etc, etc.

It actually reminds me a bit of Timetable on Foxtrot - maybe it's the Kings and Queens lyrics and the general vibe.

The only thing I don't like is where Roine pronounces the line "The Queen behind the veal" rather than "The Queen behind the veil" grin

I also love 'For The Love Of Gold'. It's got a real Camel/Yes vibe.

I'm still waiting for that compilation you promised me wink

Seriously, no rush!

(And that wasn't meant to be a pun on the band Rush ....not that I'm familiar with their stuff either!).

Whoops!

So sorry Helen embarassed

If I remember correctly, I offered quite a few people compilations at the same time and I'm ashamed to say that yours must have slipped through the cracks.

Now that you've reminded me, I shall take great pleasure in putting one together for you as an introduction to my favourite band from the past 15 years.

Could you please list your top 5 artists so that I can tailor it a bit for you?
