Definitely! The opening of the song Numbers contains some of my favorite melodies in recent memory. Especially the part during the lyrics "Look up that skyline, there's a bad moon rising" -- there's just something about that melody line and chord change. Does it remind anyone else of Serious Dreamers, just a little? Maybe I'm crazy. wink

Nov! Very surprised you don't have it yet. Thought you'd have been sitting in the studio as the band recorded it! wink

Indeed, I'm half-expecting to see Nov in the documentary video on the bonus disc. grin

My thoughts entirely. The bad moon rising bit is ridiculously catchy and I love the way they bring it back in again towards the end of the song. Classic TFK! wink

Yes, brilliant how they reprise it at the end. I was worried it might not repeat again! It'd be a crime to not bring it back, it's such a lovely piece. cheesy

Wonderful music. And the shorter songs continue to grow on me as well. It's just so good to hear these guys together again! smiley

Played it twice more today. Still too early to give any sort of informed opinion, but my three favourite songs so far are Numbers, For The Love Of Gold and Rising The Imperial.
The whole album is a grower though.
Is it experimental like Unfold The Future? No.
Is it rich, layered and diverse like Flower Power? No
Nevertheless, it's very good and the best release I've heard this year so far.
If anything, the songs could be described as more straightforward than on previous albums. That's not to say they aren't colourful and inventive. Jonas's bass is as slinky and snake-like as ever, Hasse's vocals are just as powerful, Tomas's keyboards, whilst maybe not so much to the fore as previously, are still textured and fill out the sound nicely, with some very nice touches. New drummer Felix is certainly up to scratch and his playing suits the band very well, imo.
The thing I've noticed most though is Roine's playing. He throws in quite a few tasty solos on this album, and the guitar is very much the dominant instrument a lot of the time throughout the album.
The bonus tracks are all very good, though maybe not quite as strong as the main album's songs. Of course, that's how it should be.
All in all, very satisfied. There is nothing here that makes me go 'wow!' but I do have a silly smile on my face a lot of the time whilst listening to the cd. I'm totally happy with it, as most fans appear to be. In fact, someone over on the Garden of Dreams site says this album may already be in their top five TFK albums! cheesy

Wonder if Nov has nipped over to Sweden to personally wrestle a copy of the album from Roine? Methinks he's secretly terrified of listening to it, in case he's disappointed with it, like he was with SONE.
Go on Nov, bite the bullet! You won't know until you try it. (Said the actress to the proverbial...) grin

Just listened to all of BoE yesterday again -- how wonderful! The epic Numbers is probably my favorite, but the shorter songs are growing with each listen. For Love of Gold is a lovely track.

Still too early to tell whether this is a masterpiece on the same level as The Sum of No Evil or Unfold The Future, but it's definitely close. smiley

I haven't played the bonus disc yet...

Hi everyone! I posted some thoughts on progressiveears.com. Here were my comments after one listen:

OK, I've only given it one listen, but here are my first impressions:

- I like that there are more Roine vocals and less Hasse vocals. I know others will disagree, but IMO I really prefer Roine's singing

- Definitely a lot of guitar work, which I like...I mean, hey...it's Roine! He is amazing! but...

- I notice at the same time Tomas seems to be pretty much in the background. And, he is only credited with co-writing one of the (shorter) songs. Is he saving material for his next solo album? I would have liked to have him a bit more upfront.

- The new drummer is pretty solid. No complaints there.

- No Hasse Bruniusson = a bummer! I always enjoy what he adds to the sound.

Now it's time to dive in again.....

And here was my update after my tenth listen:

Just wanted to update this after about 10 spins. WOW...it's really growing on me, unlike The Sum of No Evil which just never grabbed me. Maybe it was the long wait?? I think a lot of it is the increase in Roine vocals....sorry, Hasse fans!

Happy listening everyone!! smiley

I am with you regarding Hasse's vocals. On the latest Musical Companion CD, Hasse ruins the entire disc with his singing. The band is tight though. It would have served the fans better as an instrumental. Even the songs on TFK's "Banks Of Eden," where Hasse and Roine both share vocals, Roine makes it better. I used to enjoy Hasse with TFK, but for me, I think I've seen where the talent lies within the band, and it's just not there for Hasse. Tomas, Roine, Zoltan, Jonas, Daniel, Hasse Bruniusson are all amazing artists. I too miss HB's input with TFK. The last thing I remember him doing was his Flying Food Circus project, which had a big Frank Zappa influence. I love Zappa's work, but not when others attempt to copy him.

I do like Hasse in small doses. Like on the early TFK albums when he sang maybe one song or half of a song. And I do think he makes the ending of Stardust We Are take off to stratospheric heights. It's truly incredible. I just found him to be overused from The Rainmaker onward.

Sometimes Hasse can seem over the top, but I think he does a fine job most of the time. When he's harmonising with Roine, sounding like Jon Anderson, it's produced some of my favourite TFK moments. He sounds great on songs like Church Of Your Heart, There Is More To This World, Psychedelic Postcard, Chicken Farmers Song and Painter. My favourite track of his though has always been, and still is, Magic Pie. To me, it's a majestic song, and Hasse sounds fantastic on it. By nature though, I think he's still a rocker at heart, and rockers often sound over the top; think of Robert Plant, Ian Gillan etc. If he wasn't in the band, I'd certainly miss him.

Firmly in TFK mode at the moment.
Today I've played Paradox Hotel, both discs, Carpe Diem, and am currently listening to Brimstoned In Europe.
All rather good stuff. cool

I've been listening to Rainmaker this week.

This album continues to go up and up in my estimation. The four long tracks are wonderful and most of the short tracks are very enjoyable. I think it's really underrated to be honest.

By the way, in case anyone was wondering, I haven't got the new album yet coz I've asked for it for my Birthday which is in a week's time wink

Anticipation is half the fun.........

Have you decided if you're going to see TFK in September yet? It's really got to be done hasn't it?

Greetings Nov.
This week, I had two days off work as I could hardly walk. Was on two sticks, which doesn't bode well for the future, and we're going to Torquay next month for a break! Hope I'm back to 'normal' by then.

Regarding the new album, I would venture to say that the first two tracks, Numbers and For The Love Of Gold are better than anything on SONE, as is the last track, Rising The Imperial. Numbers is right up there with their best epics. Maybe not quite as sublime as Garden Of Dreams or The Truth Will Set You Free, but it's another top notch epic, believe me. More straightforward in it's structure, but, after a couple of listens, it's as catchy as hell, and catchy can be good sometimes!
Anyway, wait till you get it and see what you think. wink

I'm playing it now, as it happens. (Now there's a surprise!) grin
