Really enjoying Agents Of Mercy "The Black Forest." The level of talent in this band is phenomenal. When compared to both their previous releases, TBF is the most addictive. Each member of the band offers their own unique contribution to the AOM sound. I hope they have another 10 albums up their sleeve wink cool

Yes, but The Flower Kings must come first at some point in Roine's schedule wink

That's great! I'm still waiting on the copy I ordered...

How would you describe it, in comparison to their other output? Heavier? Less symphonic? I'm curious. cheesy

Symphonic prog wrapped in a hard rock shell, with a smattering of retro feel about it. It's every bit as good as Dramarama, but this time around the band have definitely come into their own. Lalle Larsson's synth solos are amazing! Jonas Reingold's metal background has obviously been an influence here as well. In the past, TFK have successfully combined metal with symphonic prog, yet this band sounds nothing like TFK. AOM are a completely different beast. Nad Sylvan's vocals rise to the top here, sometimes reminding me of Peter Gabriel and other times Cat Stevens. Very impressive! Walle Wahlgren and Jonas consistently hold each song together as the band's amazing rhythm section, laying down a righteous foundation. Roine is the king of symphonic prog and can do no wrong. How he has remained under the radar in the music business I cannot even begin to fathom.

Very interesting... There's a very positive review on Progarchives also, and it sounds like a change of direction for AoM.

However, this causes me a little bit of concern, because I felt that Dramarama was a masterpiece. Literally one of my favorite CDs ever. I always worry when I hear about changes in direction for a band when I like where they're at currently. But this is still something I'm looking forward to and will listen with open (and eager) ears. smiley

Well Nov, this may just interest you:

I was reading a colleague's comment over on the Garden Of Dreams forum a day or two ago.
He said he met Roine at the Gothenburg prog Festival. Of course, in Roine's presence, said colleague became, in his own words a 'babbling idiot'. Nevertheless, he did ask Roine if there would be another TFK album. Roine said yes!
Then he asked him if Tomas would be on the album. Roine said yes!?? and looked a little bit puzzled. Then he laughed and said: 'Don't believe everything you read on the internet!'

Sounds like good news to me. wink

Currently playing: The Sum Of No Evil

As always with TFK, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
It really is a top notch album indeed. If any other band had recorded it, it would probably be the highlight of their output. It's just that TFK set the bar so high with some of their earlier albums, that this one doesn't particularly standout. It's certainly on a par with most however. I've got a big smile on my face whilst listening to it.
