Okay, so after a bit of a delay, Paradox Hotel has been TFK album number 2. Given it a couple of spins and so far I'm finding the tracks that I know (from Nov's wonderful initial selections) are the ones that stand out. Going to give it several more listens to even the playing field and see which ones stand out then.

Paradox Hotel is one of those albums that took me a while to get into, but when I did wow!!

Stands out to me as one of their best cool so keep persevering and I am convinced you will learn to love it grin

I guess I better persevere myself because I rate PH near the bottom. This is probably in part because I don't like Marcus' drumming as much as Zoltan's and Jaime's. Just personal taste, that's all tongue wink smiley

I didn't mean that I wasn't impressed, just that, so far, the tracks I've known for a while (and love grin ) are more prodominant when I listen to the whole album, making the other tracks 'disappear' between them.

I'm still very keen to keep playing it grin

Glad you're enjoying 'PH' Heather. It's a great album, and fluctuates in my list between 3rd and 4th favourite. (1st is 'Flower Power', 2nd is 'Unfold The Future' and sometimes 3rd is 'Adam & Eve'.)
I love the whole album, even the so-called 'controversial' track, 'Bavarian Skies', which people tend to either love or hate.
Personally, I love that track, especially Tomas's keyboard work.
Give 'PH' a good listen and just enjoy its wonderful twists and turns. wink

Paradox Hotel is a real grower in two halves.

So much music to take in, it took me ages before I even played CD2.

But as with a lot of great prog, the reward is there and now, whenever I play the album I still hear new stuff. smiley

Having said that Flower Power is the pinnacle album for me wink It smells of symphonic prog smiley

Decided to watch a dvd I hadn't watched for ages: Transatlantic - Live In Europe.
I'd forgotten just how good it was. Enjoyed it immensely. smiley
Roine seems happy to just blend in with the background for the majority of the time. Maybe he was just glad the onus wasn't all on him for a change to lead the band...it must have been nice for him to just be able to play his parts freely.

PH is way down my list simply because I think the songs are not that great and smacks of rushing out another album in record time. I find myself always going back to UTF, Stardust or Space Revolver.

I don't see this in PH at all.

I think there's a lot of care and love gone into the PH album.

Just look at these few songs:

Monsters and Men (a top 5 TFK track for me)
Pioneers of Aviation
Self Consuming Fire
End On A High Note
Touch My Heaven
Man Of The World
What If God Is Alone
Blue Planet

To me, they are all tremendous tracks and I like plenty of the others as well.

In short, I disagee grin

No problem with any disagreement on FK albums but it is one of their back catalogue that I seldom if ever play - may need to go back and revist.

Also, pith helmet and sandbags at the ready, I also do not rate FlowerPower as much as many others. I prefer Stardust we are to that album (I bought both together and prefer the latter as a much more melodic album). I do prefer disc 1 of FP to the second. Am I barred from this thread now? Am I barred from this forum? grin

As much as I enjoy both "Flower Power" and "Stardust We Are," I actually enjoy the variety of musical styles that TFK laid out on "Unfold The Future." Many fans don't like this album due to its jazz/fusion elements, but I think it's a nice transition from their normal psychedelic songwriting style.

The album showcases Roine's and Tomas' vast talents across different genres. Zoltan is allowed to flex his muscles due to his background in jazz style drumming, and Jonas, to my joy, uses his fretless bass quite a bit as well.

For some listeners, this is the best TFK album primarily because the band members really get to show off their chops.

Great to see people's different views and opinions on different TFK albums. As everyone knows, I love all the albums, and, while there are some songs I don't rate quite as highly as others, there isn't a single track they've done that I don't like, at least to some extent.
Also interesting to see the four albums that bookend my own album list getting a few mentions,
my top two albums being Flower Power and Unfold The Future, and my bottom two being Stardust We Are and, below that, Space Revolver.
But, as I always say, the gap between top and bottom is very small indeed.
Keep up the debate chaps! cheesy
