So I burned him a copy of the Meet The Flower Kings DVD. I can't wait to see the expression on his face after he watches it. He's just like I was when I discovered all this new music, a sponge waiting to absorb all this great stuff that's out there.

It's been an absolute pleasure for me to have introduced so many people to The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, etc, etc over the last few years.

I love it when someone is open minded and willing to hear something new and recognise how great these bands are rather than just moaning that prog died in 1977 and how anything new is just a poor imitation.

Of course, this does actually apply to some bands but anyone who really understands The Flower Kings know that they are every bit as good as Yes and Genesis were in the 1970s and are a band of extraordinary talent.

I'm sure your friend will be blown away by that DVD Dave, especially Jonas's bass playing wink

Always a pleasure to read when the musicians answer emails directly and personally. After all it's their business cool

The best example of this that I know of is the guys from Gazpacho who always answer PM's via their MySpace webpage. smiley

Now now Nov, I'm sure Roine's just as excited at the prospect of seeing Dave as Dave is at seeing Roine. I bet, as soon as he gets on stage, Roine will shine a big torch straight onto third row centre, in a strange and breathless desire to see his hero.... lipsrsealed

Right, I'm off...before the abuse flows from all sides..... laugh

And Roine.

And Tomas.

And Zoltan.

And gave Hasse some singing lessons and advice on how to both care for one's hair and toss it with gay abandon.

I wonder if there is a woman in the world called "Gay Abandon"?

Statistically speaking, there must be.

Johnny Cash taught us all about a boy named Sue, so why not a girl named Gay Abandon?

Your CD has been made and is currently being road-tested wink

Here's the track-listing:

1) Back In The World Of Adventures (13:37)
2) The Magic Circus Of Zeb (7:07)
3) The Man Who Walked With Kings (5:00)
4) In The Eyes Of The World (10:39)
5) Cosmic Circus / Babylon (5:47)
6) Man Of The World (5:59)
7) Slave To Money (7:30)
8) A King’s Prayer (6:02)
9) I Am The Sun (Part 2) (10:39)

Comments guys?

I know I tend to play it a bit safe on introductory CDs for people. I don't want to scare anyone off with 30 minute epics right at the start of their Flower Kings introduction.

grin

I've fallen in love!!

NOW I understand why you guys go on......and on grin about The Flower Kings.

After the first few bars, I had a big grin on my face, thinking 'I think I'm going to like this.' First track to really stand out was In The Eyes Of The World, then I got to A King's Prayer and wow, I Am The Sun (though I did get disturbed by the phone, so I don't think I got the full effect!)

More plays over the next few days and I'll report back on how it grows on me - not that I need persuading how wonderful this is. grin

Thank you SO much Nov. kiss

Next question guys - Which album do I buy first??

I started with Space Revolver at Nov's suggestion, and am glad that I did because the double albums are a bit much for the novice (a little pun there Nov grin). I then gradually built my TFK collection and have just now completed it with Carpe Diem, due to arrive any day now, straight from Sweden cool It's been a little over 2 years now since my first listen and I've found very little that could come close to the greatness of Roine and his band of merry men.

Beware BLUEGIRL, this will lead to an obsession with anything TFK, which includes Transatlantic, Kaipa, Karmakanic, The Tangent, and all of the solo efforts by Roine and Tomas. I hope you're prepared for this journey. It's well worth it, believe me.

To back up Demo Man's suggestion of Flower Power, it really is a wonderful double album, but so is Stardust We Are and Unfold The Future and Back In The World Of Adventure and so on and so on. See what I mean? It'll drive you crazy.

HAVE FUN! grin

Another tip, pay the extra for the special editions smiley

I have to say that TFK's Cd's are pretty expensive and a target of £10-12 a CD is probably realistic, however it's obviously best to shop around.
