Decided my favourite Bodin album has to be An Ordinary Night In My Ordinary Life...or Swedish Family's Vintage Prog. Been playing both a lot lately. Does anyone have his Cinematograf album yet?
Any opinions? undecided

I'd say that "Swedish Family's Vintage Prog" is my favourite though I haven't heard them all.

I think it's all down to the Stolt influence. Don't get me wrong. Tomas's stuff is very good anyway, and he's a fine composer, but when he gets Roine to play guitar on his albums it just seems to raise the bar that extra little bit.
It's no surprise that my two fave Bodin albums both have Roine as guitarist on them.
I find it's the same with The Tangent. I have all their albums, and enjoy them all, but, for me, their best work is to be found on their first two albums, and we all know who the guitarist is on those!
He just seems to have that Midas touch, whether he's leading a band or guesting on another's album.
He brings that little something to the table each time.
One of my favourite musicians of all time, full stop.
cool

That pretty much goes for Kaipa as well.

Let's hope Roine doesn't decide to leave Transatlantic grin

Indeed Dave. Well said. I'd momentarily forgotten about Kaipa. Both old and new versions of the band have had the benefit of his playing. (Although the last Kaipa album, Angling Feelings, is still very good, even without him.)
As for Transatlantic, I believe Roine wasn't even first choice for the band! I'm certainly glad the first choice declined, or couldn't make it! grin

It is with great pleasure that CalProg announces The Nomadic Pack of Proggin' Swedes (and the one dude)...

Karmakanic and Agents of Mercy

Or as Roine said:
Two men - One vision - One big wall of sound
Everything is possible...

Jonas Reingold & Roine Stolt of the Flowerkings join forces with a
stellar lineup for CalProg 2009:

Göran Edman - Vocal ( Yngvie Malmsteen )
Nad Sylvan - Vocal & Keyboards (Unifaun)
Roine Stolt - Guitars,Vocal & Keyboards ( Flowerkings&Transatlantic)
Lalle Larsson - Keyboards
Jonas Reingold - Bass (Flowerkings)
Nick D'Virgilio - Drums & Vocals ( Spocks Beard,Tears For Fears )

This completes the line-up for this year's festival, marking it as the first year to feature an all Euro line-up (except the one dude) (oh and the one Jersey guy). Looks like the staff and I better brush up on our Eurish skills. Volunteer translators needed!

CalProg 2009 will be held on October 10 in Whittier, California.
Tickets go on sale Saturday June 27 at 8:00AM at CalProg website.

A rather spectacular line-up, it has to be said. It would be good if they recorded it for a future dvd. smiley

Cal Prog has always released a "Best Of" audio CD of each band a couple months after the gig, but I've never seen a DVD. Roine and TFK reserved the rights to their 2005 Cal Prog set and released it as Carpe Diem, so they weren't on the Cal Prog version.

I've been introducing one of my female coworkers to prog lately. She loves Airbag and Abraxas, but says that Porcupine Tree and The Flower Kings make her feel nervous and anxious rolleyes Hmmm.......Oh well. I gave it a try Nov wink

I tried to do the same, lent her (no - not the same co-worker) two of Quidam's finest a couple of months ago ...got them back last week with the comment "a bit intense aren't they?"...so now she's back listening to Elbow, The Doves and whatever else the 'next great thing' is...ah well, there's only so much you can do! smiley
